Nobody can figure this out, mainly because nobody uses dual cpus any more :( wahh..

I still cant get any game to use my SMP, linux is running SMP just fine, loads both cpus with no problems, works great..

Quake3 supports SMP in windows, mac, and linux.. so.. I know in windows i enable SMP and it WORKS but it freezes quake [not stable in windows] now why cant i do this with linux?

I posted before thinking it was related to the kernel install for the general drivers for linux, those thaty you need for redhat8... since nvidia has yet to release rh8 SMP drivers i think there is a configuration i missed or something, not sure, and nobody can tell me what i need to check to make sure the nvidia drivers are using SMP.. now since i dont have rh8 drivers for smp i dunno..

please help, drivin me nuts, and q3 in windows isnt stable using smp so.. i must use linux, and yes, with it enabled i do double fps [more or less] despite what some say.. it is a HUGE gain in fps, not a little.

The NVIDIA drivers don't have anything to do with SMP. "Using SMP" is a function of the application you're running. Are you sure you're enabling Q3A's SMP support correctly?

The difference between the UP and SMP drivers on the download page is simply the kernel they were compiled against. There's no difference in configuration between the two.

ok, yes q3 has smp enabled [[and works in windows] and linux is running smp, with both cpus being seen.

disabling and enabling r_smp in q3 makes no change, in windows it makes a noticbale fps change, weather or not windows prints fps correcetly, it makes a change.

Quake3's SMP support isn't going to give you a huge speed boost; you're going to be better able to maintain a constant FPS under heavy load situations (lots of bots, big map, etc) because your renderer thread won't be starved.

In any case, this has nothing to do with the NVIDIA Linux drivers.

Im running RH8 SMP. Quake 3 is running r_smp1 , however in the lastest point release the smp doesnt do anything anyways.
