What do you guys think? Sounds rather biased since it mentions future, unreleased ATI drivers.

I guess it could be possible if 3DMark05 doesn't like the current ATI drivers for some reason. I doubt very much if we'll see a 30% boost across the board (not that that is being suggested). With the benchmark coming out tomorrow and ATI falling behind I guess they have to say something. "A new driver will fix everything.." is an old line that seldomly comes true.

Will ATI do app specific optimizations for benchmarks like they've decided to do with games? If so, I don't think the jump seems all that unreasonable.

Well ATI have released a beta of the 8.07 driver claiming that problems with Star Wars: KOTOR has a problem...if it just so happens that it's also the driver which makes 3DM05 run much faster then it's lucky they released that beta driver just the day before 3DM05 was going to show a 6800GT matching an x800XT PE...phew what a fortunate coincidence. I wouldn't be suprised if Nvidia releases a new driver to fix a problem in some game or other, which just happens to significantly up their 3DM05 score too!

Conspiracy hat off, I remember having to get a hotfix beta Catalyst driver just to stop Call of Duty crashing on my 9800Pro...so it's not actually an unprecedented move for ATI.

PCI express version of X800XT already scores 6000, so there is a bug in drivers for AGP version. It's just a bug, it's not anything suspicious...

Yeah I was scratching my head when a site like ve3d.com posted an ati beta driver that HOTFIXES a crash in a NEVERHEARD game. At first I thought well they've sure changed their ways since I last checked, but its obviously a laughable excuse to get the beta driver out.

All the while thousands of Battlefield Vietnam players are CTDing constantly and no fix in sight (and no, it doesnt happen for NV users like myself. I've tried it with 4 diff nv cards).

No, they have stated that they will only do optimizations for games.

Sure they will ;)

Just remember, as always, when ati rigs their drivers it's legal optimizations, when nvidia does it..it's cheating...::rollseyes::

It was like I was saying to Sazar, I KNEW these drivers would have an enormous boost for 3DMark05... haha

Hehe a hotfix they just HAD to get out for an OLD game that people have been screaming for to be fixed since it came out.

I played KOTOR and lived with that PITA bug on my 9800 (crash, crash,crash)...the game was a GOTY title and it's $20 bargain bin now on PC and Xbox. Kinda tells ya how long they waited to get this "hotfix" out eh?

Thats a hell of a jump from 4500 to 5800,wonder what was optimize and that should mean the games should run faster with that new hotfix driver.

Its nice to know that the GT can match the 4500..kinds sounds odd but thats pretty impressive..if its true :P.

We will find out soon.

Nvidia claims lead on 3dMark05 score

SLI dig at opposition

By INQUIRER staff: Wednesday 29 September 2004, 11:24

WHILE LEAKS of different 3dMark05 scores have been hitting the web everywhere, Nvidia has today claimed that results for its Geforce 6800 Ultra SLI outstrip its competitors.
In a statement, the company said that in benchmark tests it conducted using 3dMark05, it scored 7229 marks, and that is an industry best.

The tests were donducted using two GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI Express cards running in SLI mode on an Intel Tumwater based chipset, and using a Pentium 4 3.4GHz Extreme Edition processor, using the ForeWare 66.51 driver. µ

The 8.07 beta driver includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive us of graphics memory..

So this time what the INQ said is confirmed, the scores are about right according to orb.

Yep, I get almost 6000 points with the X800XT PE.

i think ATI might have cheat on 3D MAKR 05
i don't believe x800 XT PE could have 1xxx marks over 6800u

Wow, ATI really "optimized" those drivers for 3DM05...20% to 30% gains in that "game" across the board for X800 Pro/XT/PE...while in real games like Far Cry, Doom3, etc., the 6800GT/U's still hold and edge.

Now if those ATI drivers gave the same boost to REAL games, I would be getting an ATI card... But too bad....who plays 3DM05 anyway?

Seems pretty decent for a "real world" system...I get 4400's myself...I am assuming that your 1mb cache cpu helps somewhat, and is that board a 939 dual channel rig? That would get a bit more as well...

P.S.-it seems this bench is fairly gpu dependent, cpu's with 200mhz-300mhz more don't seem to affect the scores much at all...the difference between 2ghz and 2.5ghz on my rig, all other things being equal, are less than 150 points...? Anyone else seeing this as well?
