Sigh, this is really starting to bother me. Does anyone know why Nvidia hasn't released an official driver in so long?

We've seen countless sets of leaked drivers and not even a hint of something official from Nvidia.

WTF is going on with them!!!!

(soapbox)

Their drivers can't pass the test...

Why does it actually matter?

From what I've read they can't pass WHQL testing for the FX cards. I'm not sure if the drivers pass for the 6800 cards or not.

Maybe the new 3dmark will light a fire under them and we'll get something official soon.

They can pass for 6800, since 61.76 were WHQL. The only reason why 61.77 weren't WHQL is because NVIDIA enabled in *.inf file support for SM3.0 and automatically Windows XP will recognize as it non WHQL.

The 61.31's are WHQL'd as well

66.32 are WHQL for 6600 cards. But yet Digital Vibrance and Image Sharpening didn't work for most people...

61.77 has an o/c not sticking bug on my system (check boxes don't stay checked and settings don't get applied at startup). I didn't like them too much, other than the fact they had 3d stereo drivers to go along with them.

That article that appeared on the Inquirer, states that NVIDIA could well do their own tests to see if they would be good candidates, then submit ... and the WHQL certified drivers would be returned within 24 hours. I was led to believe that this took weeks... (the reason I was given for 65.xx being a potential public release) ... been a bit of a while now tho!

Here (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=18730)'s some stuff regarding the issue from Inq.

As known, the inquirer is not the most trustworthy posting news, so make your judgements according it.

Yeah, they mention 61.77 but fail to mention that 61.76, released a day earlier and available on the FTP, are WHQL certified.

WHQL or beta, it doesn't matter. Just use the new ones as they come out, and keep what works the best.

There have only been 2 leaked drivers since the 53.03s that caused minor issues with my FX 5900 card. All the rest have worked fine.

jus read in theinquirer.net that nvidia is supposedly gonna have a new whql driver on their site in 2-3 weeks...

I don't know how the Inq could know that because NVIDIA's PR department seems to have been on holiday since the Geforce3 was released.

well the inquirer is the inquirer.. not the best place for trustworthy information... but i suppose its good to hear any kind of news or rumor of an official nvidia driver release..

I did have a revelation the other day tho.
We are looking at it from one point of view.
NVIDIA, for example, have to impress their investors with the fastest card ever, as do ATI. I just can't fathom why NVIDIA aren't allowed to speak out like ATI do (or ok, not quite so loud mouthed), but at least reassure its users (some of whom who might have just spent 440 on a top of the line GPU for example) that better things are coming - but no, their last drivers that reach futuremark certification are 55.xx - which are not compatible with their line of cards.

Takes the piss, really does. And if you think I am pissed with NVIDIA -- there the cards I like... you should see how I feel about ATI :p

I'd just thinking that they been busy to make a new layout concept for
there drivers as what ATI is busy on with cat 4.10, manufacters of other
cards have more time for it to fixing those drivers out.
So i think its a wisely secret when Nvidia make the same driver construction
include with a nice test game screen for all the different hardware specs of
playing.....
So its not only the concept for more performance in FPS in games but they
tried to fight along the line of high tech to get something new...

If you think the grass is greener on the other side
then my all means jump the fence.
As for me I know it's not. I just went through
3 ati cards. I can tell ya nvidia still has better drivers.

Yeah, I have 61.77 since my GT now. Imo it goes like this ;

high end games delayed (HL2, SplinterCell3, etc.) = no new drivers

Yes, it is crappy, but it's reality.

its the unified driver thats killing nvidia. if the driver pasts certification for the 6xxx line, it has to pass for 5xxx, geforce 4, geforce 3, geforce 2, tnt. the 5xxx is the problem. i think nvidia needs to drop support for the 5xxx line in the new drivers.
