My friend told me that redhat will automatically edit the XF86Config to say im using a geforce 4.
Once I pop the card in will I have to recompile the nvidia kernel? again.

What the XF86Config file says doesn't matter. It's just an identification string so the XF86Config file parser can match sections. Changing it doesn't affect anything... unless you only change one section and break the file. :)

If you're changing your card, you shouldn't have to reinstall the driver or change your XF86Config file. It should just work.
