With my Athlon XP 3000+ @ 2.21ghz and EVGA 6800GT @ stock, I score around 3804 on 3DMARK05 and 10425 in 3DMARK03. I up my CPU to 2.3ghz only to score about 100-200 points less in both benchmarks. I lower the CPU clock again and it goes back up. Same thing happens with 3DMARK01SE and Aquamark: lower score at higher CPU clock. What's going on?

Your CPU is probably gettinh hot and is throtteling back to save itself. The GPU's on the 6800's do the same thing. If you look in the debug page of the nV control panel (you only have this page if you installed coolbits2) you may see some level transition errors.

As CPU temps rise it looses efficency. You need better cooling or to lower it down 100mhz. Also, upgrade your drivers to 66.70 to get an 800-1000 point boost in 3DMark05.

Actually what I think it might be is if your power supply isnt powerful enough, the extra power required by your cpu will hamper your 6800GT. This is probably the problem.

Ok let me post my other essential specs. Epox 8RDA3+ mobo, my cooling is TT SilentBoost, and PSU is Antec TruePower 430W. I would think that 430W is more than enough for a GT.

Does it provide increase in anything else other than 3DMark05? I'm using the official 61.77.

Actually XP's don't have thermal regulation. The motherboard may have it, but XP's by themselves don't (Hence why they used to cook themselves if the fan died/fell off). Just felt the need to comment :)

I just rebenched with Forceware 66.29 and my score went up to 4439 from 3803 with CPU @ 2.21ghz.
