From the review on the main page it looks great. I did some more searching and found good remarks about Lite on so for the price it looks like it's a winner. :P

Edit: Just seen it listed in my PC World issue (November) top 10 CD-RW's #7

I just picked on up myself. Newegg is having a sale on this drive. It's sale price is $57. If you want one, you might want to grab it. These babies might go fast.

Lite-On makes a heck of a drive. It can do everything the lauded Plextor can do and then some for about half the price. I just got the 48x12x48 (48126S) to go with my Plextor 24/10/40A and Pioneer DVD-ROM. It's a great combo. :)

I also just got a 48x Lite-On from newegg after my 24x Plextor died. It's a great cd-burner, hands down. Quiet, fast, and very cheap.

Funny you should mention that drive because Envy News just posted a review of it.

Check it out! (http://www.envynews.com/review.php?ID=227)

Doesn't anyone think it's odd that burn speeds are exceeding read speeds? Probably due to misleading CAV thing eh?

The Lite-On I just put in my machine burns at 48x and reads at 48x. I don't know about the 52x burning one though.

The drive is pretty awesome. Burned 73 mins. of music (converstion from mp3 to cd audio involved) in 2 mins. and 30 secs. You can't beat that with a stick...er...maybe you can, but anyways....

And, it's quiet as a mofo too. Me likes.

On the envynews review, it said the 52x burner is quite loud.
Is this the same with the 48xburner, can any of you guys tell me if urs get a little loud?

I was about to buy the 48x burner when i saw the logitech elite keyboard review on the site:) So now i think ill buy the burner nextweek instead:)

its only loud if your burning something..or reading off of it. unless your listening to a music cd it shouldn't be of any annoyance.

Wow. Has anyone heard of imbalance and/or shattering problems with these drives? The speeds those CDs must have to go, even with multi-laser tech, is huge.

I own a piddly little 24x12x24 (bulk surplus for $25). It burns 160MB in about 8-10mins on my rig.

that seems really slow...my 12x lite-on burns 650mb in 7 minutes

My old 8x ricoh burner can do 650 in 8:30 mins.
With ur setup it should be burning faster than that.
160mb in 8-10min on a 24x burner is not right.

Definitely not. Make sure your burner is running in DMA/UDMA mode. That could be what's making it slow.

With my Lite-On 48x, I was able to burn the images I created of RalliSport Challenge in under 10 minutes for all 3 discs. :)

Probably what's wrong is that DMA ain't working, so if you're running XP, delete the Secondary IDE Controller and let it redetect. Reinstall ASPI layer if necessary, and you should be peachy.

I actually put mine in today and burned a few games. Boy 24X is a hell of a lot faster than my old 8X. This thing kicks ass for the price.
