Any rumors on what it's going to be? Clocks?
its basically an nv40 with sli. not really that diffrent
i think the next incarnation of the nv4x is the nv48 ... this is the chip that im really interested in .... im wondering will it be here before the new year ....thats when im going balls to the wall and dropping 2k on a water cooled sli rig.
actually it's nv40 with a HSI bridge...same clocks as nv40 series.

oh.. thought NV45 would be a PCI-E Native version of NV40..
So a NV40 based videocard with a bridge, is NV45 then?
Wasnt that chip external? and if so, why change the GPU name when its coupled with a bridge chip?
Or IS it a PCI-E native version of NV40, with a bridge for the AGP version?
nope its basically what coldpower said.
The NV48 is rumoured to be PCI-e native...whith AGP NV48s utlizing the HSI..only the other way around for AGP compatibilty. Anandtech have a NV45 article if u serach their reviews section which explains more dude.

for the NV40 refresh?
no no NV45 is not refresh...rather a PCI version..I also do not get the logic behind that.
NV48 is the refresh and will probably get some form of speed bump...how much so...who knows..as it's rumoured to be on 110 nm process...and there's always trouble adopting new manufacturing processes. I hope for a lil more than just a lil boost in core speeds

I think certain issues have to be fixed like maybe the VPE thing? and....a few architectural tweaks here and there :p

The refresh is supposed to be, a slightly enhanced version based on a slightly more advanced core.
Take for example.
NV10 - Geforce 256 SDR
NV15 - Geforce 2 GTS
Waht did NV15 add, 0.18 micron process, 4x2 architecture. Higher core clock and memory clock. The high end core uses DDR memory by default.
NV20 - Geforce 3
NV25 - Geforce 4 Ti4600
What did NV25 add, 1 addtional Vertex Shader, a slightly higher Pixel Shader v1.3. And of course high core and memory speeds. 128 MB VRAM default on Flagship.
NV30 - Geforce FX 5800 Ultra
NV35 - Geforce FX 5900 Ultra.
What did NV35 add, UltraShadow technology, a 256Bit Wide Memory Interface. 256MB default on Flagship.
Those are just examples and I didn't list all improvements each core added.
Thinks of it this way, NV25 - NV28 is like NV40 - NV45 :D
There were only a few revision that added just more core speed like Radeon 9800 XT and Geforce FX 5950 Ultra.
I don't think the NV48 will be a huge improvement to the NV40 architecture. Just the NV40 tweaked and on the .11 micron process which will allow much higher clock speeds. I could be wrong though.

Ati cannot get there product to market and nv
just cannot get much over 400mhz with a 222 mil trans core. :rofl:
just cannot get much over 400mhz with a 222 mil trans core. whats so funny about that... there not even using low-k i think its amazing. that there getting close to the same performance as ati with lower clock rates ... could you just imagine if nvidia used low-k with this chip.. ati wouldnt know what todo with them selves

NVIDIA are using SOI i think which also nerealy serves the same purpose as low k?

I dunno, maybe the NV40 is using SOI or maybe not, I think the NV40 is just on a plain 0.13 micron process.

It would but I don't think they are using it, no way thier MHZ would be so low with SOI.

I cannot wait to see if nvidia's plan on moving to 11nm
pays off with the NV48.
If it can reach 450+ on air it should swat ati pretty good.
With ATI moving to 11 and no low-k there clocks
may get hurt this time around.
So both NV and ATI should have about the same clock speeds. ;)
