Hey guys just installed the 66.81 upgrading from 61.77 and noticed my idle temps went from 53C down to 50C not sure if this is a bug with the drivers or it is throttling the gpu to lower temps. Has anyone else noticed this?

Why could a driver do this? It makes no sense.

Well I can confirm it is defiantly lower because I reinstalled the 61.77 and it idles back at 53c now instead of 50c. Weird :screwy:

I read another post somewhere where a guy said that since he installed the 66.81's his gfx card fan ran faster, could THAT be why your cards are running cooler?

I doubt it really since the 66.81's seem to only be "optimized" for 3dmark05 but I do think its possible the drivers aren't quite reading the thermal diode correctly. I wish every driver released had some sort of "release notes" attached to them but hey I guess that is nothing but a pipe dream.

older drivers could be making it work harder in 2d than it needs too..thus the higher temps with older drivers?

My card is now idling @ 35c, down from 38c, also after being on full load for a couple hours its @ 52c down from 58c. This is all good as far as I can see, didn't know a driver would lower temps this much.

Thanks for the link ginfest good to know what updates are included in newer forceware beta releases. They forgot to mention the almost 1000 point increase in 3dmark05 scores over the 61.77 drivers. :naughty:

Yeah, that would be great! I'd feel a little more comfortable d/l'ing from there than other sites, if you know what I mean.
