I'm a bit confused with all those graphic cards on the market. I hope to find some help here.
The point is, I am using MAYA 6for 3D animation (including heavy graphic operations like dynamics, fluids, fur etc). While planning to upgrade my PC, I got a very interesting offer for a HP XW4100 workstation (P4 3.0 / 1Gram). Here's the deal: I have the choice between a QUADRO4 980XGL card or a QUADRO FX 3000 for just 300 euro (approx 350 $) more.
Now I know that the FX 3000 is a top of the line graphics card with 256mb but I know hardly nothing about the 980xgl with only 128mb. is it really worth investing more money in the FX3000 or will I get results which come close with the 980XGL? I did a lot of research on the web, but I'm still not shure.
enclosed a chart, which doesn't really talk to me, exept that that it tells me that all the values are very similar.
I would appreciate a little hint. thanks in advance.

Well I think it would be better to take the QuadroFX 3000, since it is the workstation variant of the NV35 over the Quadro4 980 XGL, which is a NV28.

In real world CAD you may not experience the difference between the Quadro FX 3000 and Quadro 980 XGL. I have one of each--NV35GL and NV28GL--and do not notice any rendering speed difference in CAD and 2D imaging. However, the image quality and gaming speeds are unquestionably superior on my Quadro FX 3000.

If i personally would be paying for the choice, I'd get the 980 XGL. If I was having the company get me one, i'd ask for the FX 3000.

thx ricercar,
that's a bit what I thought. especially if you have both types of cards, I'll trust your advice.
