Topic makes a statement, the question is do I have to recompile the kernel and remove DRI support for said Radeon so an nV card will work?

You shouldn't. Although I'd make sure that DRI is a kernel module and that it doesn't get loaded...

I don't include any DRI support in my kernels any more, so know it works without (duh...), but I don't believe you have to specifically remove it as long as the DRI-whatever modules are not loaded.

EEEEEK!! You can't prove it's me even though I do have T-bird 700 @ 748 (5.5x136) and dualboot Gentoo and WinME..damn guess that says it all huh? :P Which Ti4200 did you go with? ATM I'm thinking MSI's 64 meg card.
