I feel so ripped off at the moment, why didnt i just go buy a GT intead of an Ultra, they seem to be the same in every department, whats the difference ? apart from them being $500 AU less.

Wheres the coolers for our 6800u's i see lots of coolers for the GT's, can these be used for the Ultras as well ?

The VGA Silencer 5 works on the 6800 Ultra

I would think so myself.
The ultra is pretty much the same card
as the GT. :)

I have the NV5 and AS5 on the way now for my GT. :D
:nanahump: :ORDER:

You guys talked me into buying it.

that nv5 silencer, is it the same as the vga silencer ? and if so it looks the same as the refrence cooling but a clear case ???

Non of the 6800's have this cooler stock.
Not even close.
It's more like the 5950 had on it. :)

The VGA NV5 is there latest greatest that fit the 6800.

I would not mind having a 5800u cooler to fit my 6800.
It's the best video cooling I've ever used or seen. :)

My GT runs 25mhz faster on core than your Ultra and 50mhz faster on the ram :p plus cost me a ton less :D

D@mn man that's one hell of an overclock.
R U on air?
U must have got one good core.

I've had 2 GT's now and this second core is
for sure better than my first. 400 is the max
I can get with stock cooling.
My first one would not do 380 without lockups.

all luck of the draw of the die you get and the cooling solution that goes with it. My Ultra does 450mhz core and 1.2ghz mem. not all can do that, some GTs do more. etc etc etc but what is important is the ultras are graded to do the higher clocks..wheras, GTs...may suffer a lil as time goes by...more than ultras as you overclock em.. at least.

My PNY Ultra runs 450/1200 with ease but I am concerned about heat so I dropped it down to 440/1200. I didn't try overclocking past 450 though but I think I may be able to pull off 460 or a little higher, just too worried though about messing things up. It took me months to decide to even take off my stock cooler to apply AS5 and the eVGA copper heatsink. Palms were all sweaty and stuff (lol).

I think installing the eVGA copper heatsink helped a lot with my overclockability (is that even a word?) because I'm at 53 c idle and about 65 c load (before I was at 64 c idle and 75 and up, load).

Well since your braggin......my BFG 6800 Ultra does 460 core and 1280 on the mem. And this is all on STOCK air cooling WITHOUT applying as5 or replacing the heatsink with the copper one from evga. And no bios mods or voltage adjustments either. So thats 10mhz core faster then yours and 130mhz faster on the memory. Thats why ppl get Ultras, because they HAVE 1.6ns memory(most brands) instead of the 2.0ns that the GT gets.

Anyone else out there get that high without special cooling or a water block? Very few.

But the gains you see from higher memory are a lot smaller than the gains made from higher core OC's ;). So while 130mhz on the memory might seem like a lot, 20mhz on the core would have a far more profound effect on performance.

Well since yer braggin...

I'm running 420 and 1200 on my memory, with stock cooler (stock everything, didn't change anything to card), and highest it goes with rthdribl at 8xAA/16xAF is 73C. BTW, I paid $585 CAD for mine, unlike the Ultra's which cost $750-$800 CAD here.

Oh and you know what. My card is GUARANTEED to run 400/1100 and under warranty at that speed since it's a Gainward Golden Sample. :retard:

Anyway you people can do what you want with your money. I for one have better things to do than just splash almost $200 CAD for an Ultra just cause I "could" reach a higher overclock (which I don't give a hell about). I need funds to buy an Audigy 2 and such. I couldn't afford more for a card anyway, and I could give less of a hell if you can reach higher overclock than me.

Didn't you read the card specs before you bought it?

The 6800U has a higher core/memory clock, bigger fan, dual dvi. That is all it ever was, whether its worth it for that is up to the individual. You can put an NV5 silencer on it but you have to cut off part of the metal bracket to do so.

The difference is basically the core/memory speed + The extra molex on the ultra, and then the Ultra has 1.6 ns Ram whereas the GT has 2 ns Ram.

I've got 2.2ns ram on my 5900. Just overclocked it to 1026 Mhz using Gainward Expert Tool v3.20. Woaah now thats a serious o/c man!!! lol. It was 850 stock.

Maybe in your case I dunno, but with mine....the higher memory gives alot better performance boost then a few mhz on the core. If you hadnt noticed, mine is running a higher core clock then yours anyways....as well it should since its an ultra and yours is a GT and I DONT have as5 or an nv5 silencer on it.
You do have quite a good OC on that GT however.

I was going to puchase the GT, but then I noticed something, there was a card above it. Thats just it I own the top of the line Geforce 6800 graphics card! Enough said! :nanahump:

I hear ya.... I had a Asus 5900u and the memory would do 1000 no problem. :)

Exactly. My brother ordered an ultra from the US(not available in Canada at the time), which cost ~$900 Can at the time, and then 3 weeks later I ordered my GT in Canada for $560, and his can only hit 445/1220, while mine hits 430/1150, all with stock cooling. THe extra $350 he paid gained him 15 mhz on the core and 70 on memory. Not a good deal in my opinion.

Well again it all comes down to luck. The clocks for cards I've had.... BFG 6800GT would cap out at 407/1070, PNY6800Ultra at 430/1180 and my current BFG Ultra is sitting at 456/1200 (the ram goes higher actually but I don't see a need to push it there) so I've personally seen some heavy variance.

It's all luck.

Yep... My first BFG would not do 380 core.
This one I have now is running 415/1140.
I'm just waiting on my NV5 and AS5 to go higher.
I'm getting very hot as it is.

It's all luck of the draw.
