well it ain't an ultra, but i'm in the UK and my V9999GE seems to be running 16x1, 6vp @ 420/1200 no probs...although there's no guarantee you'd get the extra 4 pipes or vp, or even a good clock. essentially mine is a 270 ultra, but i may have got lucky.

actually to make ya fel a lil better, the same problem exists in Hong Kong. I was lucky to get hold of one. There are lots of GTs but Ultras are a scaricity when I ask at the computer malls.

that u did...very lucky. Digit-life reviewed that card u have and they couldn't unlock the extra quad processing block or VS shading units. Check the review out in teh front page. They did manage to overclock to 44x core and 1.14 ghz mem though

I could give in and go for a 6800 GT but i would rather pay the extra for the Ultra.

I cant believe thay are in such short supply!

Well they are because of yield problems at IBM and possibly also shortages of the 1.6ns memory the Ultra has to be paired with mate

Price is a little steep though.

I could wait for my XFX 6800U to arrive or i could go for a BGF 6800oc from a different site who's apparently got them in stock.

I dunno what to do

Cheers mattredd :)

Thats the same site i was on about. What do you think i should do, wait for my XFX or change to the BFG?????????????????

Depends on the price difference and how desperate you are. Personally I would go for the bfg.

The BFG is about 35 more than the XFX im waiting for.

That's weird, they say the pipes are disabled at the hardware level, but the new rivatuner should enable those as well.

DJMONDY, I went to checked it out with every retailers online and none of them have 6800 Ultra in stock, so far PC World Component Store got BFG 6800 Ultra in stock at higher price. I am surprised 6800 Ultra cards are disappeared from stock that fast, it must be all these cried ATI wolves cant stand without a X800 XT PE since May have no choice but to raided retailers and steal 6800 Ultra cards in time for CounterStrike: Source release today.

Now 6800 Ultra are reached the end of 6 month life cycle, I think Nvidia going to make some 6800 Ultra chips from IBM and then discontinue it at the day when NV48 launch, I think NV48 6900 Ultra will be cheaper than 396.44 BFG 6800 Ultra in the same situation last year when I bought brand new released Leadtek 5900 Ultra for 377 in July last year and I was so pissed off when Nvidia launched 5950 Ultra and the cards in the stock same day, I found Leadtek 5950 Ultra available in stock for 327 in October, 50 cheaper!

Have a look in here

Not exactly shure what the "available" means, and also the price...
But hey, it's an MSI
Also acepting orders for Asus cards.Even more expensive mind you :drooling:

AthlonXP1800: I had the same problem, I bought a 5900U and within a week or two the 5950U came out at a cheaper price (Gutted).

If the card ive ordered doesnt come soon i'll cancel it and wait for a better card. A 6900U would be a good buy if i cant get hold of a 6800U, or will it be just as hard to get hold of one??

NoWayDude: Cheers for the link, checking it out now.

I think you guys will find that the only real difference between an Ultra and a GT is the memory performance.

It seems most (if not all) of the GT cores coming out now will do 425MHz or more if you set the core voltage to 1.4v (as it is in the Ultra). Many GT's will do 450. I don't think you get significantly more out of an Ultra.

The memory on the GT pretty much tops out in the 1100~1200MHz range however, whereas the Ultras can do a little more.

But is it *really* worth the extra money, simply for an extra 50MHz on the memory? I would say no it isn't.

I paid 258 for my BFG 6800GT and having flashed the bios with a 1.4v patch, I can now run it at 450/1120. Not bad for 258!

I suppose its worth it if you want to take the chance on toasting your 300 card.

Im not really interested in overclocking or flashing the bios so the ultra is a better buy for me and the ultra's ive found are about 60 more than the GT's so i would rather pay the extra and not have any problems.

Cheers anyway

Its a personal choice of course. And 60 is not exactly a fortune.

But on the other hand, I think you overplay the risks. Most GT's will do 400MHz or more without any bios tweaks at all. Just set the core at 400+ and away you go. Run some graphics test (like RTHDRBL) in a window and see what the core temp does at the same time in another window. If it stays lowish (like sub 80C), then the risk of toasting your card is zero.

EDIT: And I remember I paid 258 for my GT. I never saw any Ultras at 318! More like 398! At *least* 100 extra for me. Probably more like 120 ~ 140 extra.

And here's the irony: if I *had* decided to pay 140 extra to buy an Ultra, there would have been no guarantees that it would do 450MHz, which my GT does!

I think its a bit like the scenario with the later Athlon XP Bartons: You can buy a 2500+, a 3000+, a 3200+. Whatever. They all top out at around 2400 ~ 2500MHz. I paid 160 for a Barton 3200+ to replace an old 2100+ Tbred. It didn't run 1 MHz faster! Not 1.

I know when i got my systym built(from IBUYPOWER) it took 7 weeks to get it built waiting for the 6800 ultra. I have since gotten 2 more rigs(Xmas presents for the kids) albeit the vc are 9600 xt 256 mb it only took a week for those to be built and shipped! I've never seen even major contracts such as ibuypower have a problem getting the cards also. The gt is a great card also,I had the pny verto gt and it was an awesome card but it would only oc to 390 1150.Personally i would go with the gt again only for the fact that with the slot vid cooler and my raid controller anf the ultra taking up another pci slot i have no room for a sound card, but on board is good for now! Good luck with whatever way youwon't be dissappointed!

I'll probably give it to the end of the week for my order to come in. If it doesnt i will go for the BFG or wait for a next gen GPU.

Anyone have any info on whats coming after the 6800's?

Mine pre-ordered is :) :

btw, they say they going to get the card at 15th Oct.

Anyway, if going for the BFG ultra at pccomponentcentre check their price regularly, they sometimes sold the card at around 370 but sometimes they changed the price to as high as 405, that was during the whole of last month.
