I really don't think you'll wanna do that with your nv3x card... AFAIK it won't run the engine's DX9 path correctly, and also runs the PS2.x path very slowly... besides that, valve apparently did a great job with the PS1.x shaders, making them look as good as possible...

btw, overheat... um, either contribute something worthwhile or don't contribute at all... I know you threw an LOL after your statement, but still, cmon... that stuff draws the ire of us staffers and mods...

Finally I managed to enabled DirectX 9, to my surprise it ran correct, it scored 48fps in DirectX 9 compared to 70fps in DirectX 8.1 both in 1024x768 so running in DirectX 9 with 48fps is quite acceptance, I am quite happy to run games at 50fps. :D

What did you do to enable the DirectX 9 path?

You have to make CounterStrike: Source shortcut first then go to the shortcut's properties and add "-console -dxlevel 90" without quote and execute, then go to the Option, Video - Advanced and you will see DirectX 9 shown up on DirectX Hardware Level. :)

No not everyone, it suit for people who have Geforce FX 5900 Ultra or 5950 Ultra to use the command to forced full DirectX 9 to play at acceptance fps. People with cards with DirectX 9 already enabled did not need to do anything else because you already have Geforce 6 series cards with best PS 2.0 performance. With forced DirectX 9, I will have good time play Half Life 2 for a while until I can get NV48. :)

I think the GFFX 5700 and 5900 series get bad raps when they dont deserve it. If you play all your games at 1024 x 768 like I do the GFFX's do great. Sure PS2 shaders are slower than 6800 series, but still do pretty good.

I run Doom3 fantasic (I know its openGL), and I already know HL2 will be fine at either 1.1 or 2. If I can see basically no difference between the 2, I will most likely run 1.1 for the faster frame rates. Around 50 fps using DX9 path still is more than acceptable to me.

I'd like to wait till NV48 or NV50 to upgrade, and I'm pretty sure my GFFX 5900 will be fine till then. Every game I have looks and plays fantasic on this card :)

What happened to the "Mixed-Mode"? Is that what the NV3x class cards use?

I think Nvidia removed Mixed-Mode earlier this year as the driver was greatly improved, Mixed-Mode are no longer need anymore, Doom 3 ran much better without it.

Is there any way to force HDR rendering? That'd be awesome...
