lol for one thing...thats a optimization guide to any game and not the best of one i might add, telling pple to defrag and clean registry is hardly optimization...check out www.smartalec2000.com pc accelerator 2k4, best tweaking program ever

I so don't need this guide. My computer is going to eat half-life.

I hope as much as Gabe eats 32 dozen donuts every morning for breakfast. :ORDER: (naw)

Half-Life 2 isn't anything revolutionary in terms of visual appearance, or the technicality of the engine.
It's just about as advanced as UT2004 with a DX9 interface.
No optimization guide needed.
EDIT: Plus, it states ATi users should turn on TruForm. Anything R300 class or above does TruForm in emulation, therefore, very slow. Anything below R300 class is just too slow to even run HL2 at high details, let alone turning on truform.

i think the best thing about hl2 is going to be the facial animations.

Damn you'd think he would've given birth by now.

He said doughnuts, not pickles and ice cream. :p

Eh, I dunno - I'd say the facial expression system is pretty revolutionary. It's not gonna make your computer cry to run it at 1024x768 or above, but that's still something that hasn't been done before.

Yes, it's a nifty feature which eases the creation of believable facial expressions, but that is a physics function. I meant to say the renderer was not anything revolutionary.
So, in a way the engine is revolutionary...in its physics model.
Personally I think Half Life 2 beats the **** out of Doom 3 when it comes to the quality of graphics. That's because id's idea of adding detail is bump mapping everything. Half Life and Half Life 2's maps are well thought out to make a very believable experience.
So if my computer can run Doom 3 in UltraMode, is it safe to say it'll eat HL2 for breakfast? I don't wanna go to city 17 unprepared for anything less than fullout graphics and glass smooth frames and at least 12X1024. That's what I spent the money for. HL2 perfection.... :drooling:

I had to laugh at this sentence:
We don't really need to mention anti-virus and firewall software as you should be running that already.
Unless, of course, your name is Gabe Newell. Then you don't have to worry about firewalls - who's going to guess a password like "gaben" after all?
I agree this optimization guide was uber lame. I dunno why I even posted it... I think just because it said Half Life 2 in it..hah

That guide only reduces quality down to crap so it speeds up...thats not optimisation..thats how to downgrade, if its optimisation will be looking at the same quality with more speed, with tweaks to help the game run faster. ie Nvidia AA/AF Optimisations.
