Hey Guys,

well, i`m one of those NV-Beta-Driver freaks, too. Allways try them, and imagine there is a speed increase, better IQ and so on.... :angel2:

Guess what: I was wrong!

You know what a "placebo" is!? (mag)

Today i decided to play BF:V, `cause the 1.2 Patch was out with new maps and stuff. I didn`t play BF:V for some weeks now, was kind of sick of it :retard:

Well, i used the latest 66.81 and i noticed a huge, really HUGE performance loss when AA or AF was activated. (like 100 frames less-> NO KIDDIN`) from >100 fps (till up to almost 200 sometimes) to 40-70 fps. I never dropped below round 80-90 i think. Settings are 1024x768 4xAA, 4xAF all High in Game.

I thought it was the Patch 1.2, but i was wrong.

Second Game i had probs with was "Shellshock Nam" from Eidos. I was not able to play it without nasty errors on my screen. A lot of people had this problems with the 6800 series regarding to the forums @ Eidos.

So i tried a lot of diffrent betas from the last weeks, and BF:V worked great again with several betas. But Nam still was a no-go.

So i decided to install the "old" NVidia drivers straight from their homepage.

I thought "Damn...all those great performance gains and IQ benefits i will loose, compared to the newer betas..."

I was so wrong!

After testing Shellshock Nam, which worked perfectly now, i fired up BF:V, and performance was top notch! I tried SW:Battlefront, Joint Ops, Doom and so on...

ALL the fps-scores are great! I got my highest Aquamark result with the 61.77 for some weeks now (over 71000) a good and solid 13000 3DM03, all games run without a glitch and fast.)

Only "Game" which lost performance was 3DM05...lol

Man, whats the point to this? Is NV only able to improve speed for a synthetic benchmark?! Where are the big improvements regarding speed?

And btw: When i saw thew IQ of the "old" 61.77, i was really amazed :nanahump:

Sharp, crispy --> Just the way it has to be! I can`t loose the feeling that the drivers got more blurry and optimized from release to release...(optimized in a bad way!)

I had several ATI`s before, and it was the same ****: my X800 gained s h i t, but no speed from driver to driver when it came to games, BUT huge improvements regarding 3DM03....

And now, from what i read, the X800 again only gains speed in 3DM05 with the latest drivers!?....what a bunch of cheaters @ NV and ATI.

Don`t they know that gamers don`T give nothin` anymore about 3DM03/05!?

The games are important!

Well, for me the 61.77 is it, till the next driver is released @ www.nvidia.com.
The only driver which was equally good was 65.73 i think. But i can wait now :lol2:

So, perhaps some of you had similar results? I would really love to share your experiences...

Have a nice one guys....

That`s the spirit :)

Newer isn`t allways better, it seems to me....

BTW: I`m just playing "FALLOUT 1+2" again atm, to get in the mood for "The Fall" which is released in a few weeks here in Germany. I just love these post-apocalyptic-Mad Max Style- rpg games... and they are from 97 and 98 i think. NO game up to date has never ever touched the quality and intense story from these old games so far. Even "Wasteland" from the C64 if some might remember was awesome. (FO 1+2 are my all time fav`s, you know! :lame: )

--> The point is: Newer isn`t allways better....as i mentioned above ;)

Back to topic:

@ SGT_Pitt

Yeah, give them a try! Tell us how it worked for ya!

I dont use AA and max 4x af but I dont see any probs in BFV+66.70 and I play it alot. Then again I'm done with doom3 and 3dmark05 so theres no reason for using betas anyway :)

Hi

Yeah, the 66.70 are fine, just the 66.81 messed BF:V up pretty bad (at least for me!)

Have fun....

The 61.77's break AA for me in all games (Leadtek 6800GT). The 66.81's give me random BSOD's in BF:Vietnam whenever I disabled Vsync, so I reverted to the 66.75s and only had one BSOD in Battlefront instead, while BF:Vietnam was fine.

Here's hoping for a really bug-free release soon...

61.77 still fine with many games and works incredible fine, but it shoves off when i tried to play Full Spectrum Warrior, same artifacts seen on screen like ShellShock Nam '67. Within the 61.77 i could see actually the same problem but the groundtextures seems be missing and later on whole building and other characters been invisible......
Tested every beta drivers on seeying if they works fine with those games and looking up for effects is they worked also very well.
No shaderlocking lines discovered and test it with the forgotten 66.72 drivers, Full Spectrum Warrior runs marvelous with outstanding quality off rendering, only still level 8 got problems with in the ShellShock Nam '67 game!
Some few little artifacts been notiched in Panzers, some textures cycles round the tanks as a light-paper-scroll.

But 66.72 still the best after those 61.77, its time for a WHQL driver for the 6800 class working with shader sm 3.0 and DX9.0c !!!

65.73's are working quite well for me. I tried the 66.70 drivers and had some image quality issues as well as flat out bugs and even some missing "effects" that didn't seem to reneder in some games. I left them on my system long enough to crank out some 05' benches and promptly went back to the 65.73's.

61.77 for me are literally bug free. I have ZERO issues with them whatsoever.

Best overall goes to either 65.63, 65.66, or 61.77, but I'm not sure at this point. I know 61.77 is the only driver of the three that displays shadow buffers/maps at all in SC1; 65.63 and 65.66 take the crown in Doom 3 by a long shot, though.

is there that big of a difference between 61.76 and 61.77? I'm still running 61.76 and haven't felt like upgrading, but if it's worth it, I will.

Performance wise, 65.63 and 65.66 are quite a bit ahead of 61.77, while maintaining good image quality.

Hi

I don`t want to be rude, but can you proof that!?

I mean, i allways hear how fast the betas are, and what a great IQ they have...

As far as i tried the 61.77 are faster than every beta in Aquamark for example and BF:V. Only in 3DM05 the 66.81 are faster (as well as the 66.7x and 66.5x series i believe) But the 61.77 are the only drivers that work for example in Shellshock Nam (tried it and read a lot @Eidos forums)

I read some Forceware benchmark charts, and not one of them had the newer betas ahead of the 61.77 except in Doom3 and 3DM05. And even Doom3 i guess is a cheated, game-optimized result. But who knows...

I don`t know, but if the 66.81 are going final, i`m going to be mad, very mad... I lost points in Aqua, 3DM03, BF:V (very big loss!) and other games. Only gained in Doom3 and 3DM05, and some games aren`t working 100%:

-CS:Source has white lines (as i read, didn`t test) 61.77 are fine
-Shellshock Nam is unplayable (not with 61.77)
-PGA Tour (i don`t know the exact name of the game) has corruptions (not with 61.77)
-Dungeon Siege has problems (no probs 61.77)
-Splinter Cell shadows broken (work with 61.77)
and so on...

But who cares: All my games work fine, games i don`t play aren`t my prob ;)
Perhaps i will stay with 61.77, or try some more betas, or even wati for a new NV-Release....who knows.

But the "Faster - Better Looking - More Stable" placebo effect is gone out of my head for sure. Somebody has to proof it to me first, before i believe it, again ;)

Best Regards, and no harm meant! :)

61.77 has been the only good driver where everything works and looks the way it should for me. Any of the other drivers introduced some new bug or problem in a game that were crap apart from the 3dpenis "benchmark" scores or maybe one or two frames in two games while the rest are bust of course..yay!

been getting impatient waiting for an official but i got sick of messing around with all the beta's :)

yeah, i learned a long time ago to stick with official drivers. betas are a no go in my neck of the woods.

65.73 /// 65.76 are the best drivers right now. They give a massive boost to CS Source compared to 61.77.

The entire 66.xx series is bugged, the white lines only come on that, they do give more fps when noaa/8xaf compared to 65, but those lines and the 4xaa bug isent something i wanna play with. Gotta wait till they fix that, till the 65.xx are defeantly the best drivers.

So, I'll ask again:

Is it worth upgrading to 61.77 from 61.76?

Agreed. These seem to be the best beta's to date for CS:S, D3, and far cry. Faster fps than 61.77. No annoying anamolies like the few 66.xx I tried. DV works etc...

K007

Yep DV works as well. Best drivesr for 6 Series in along time. And i cant tell if the quality was brought down or not, becuase they look the same to me. CS Source was the biggest game that got a boost from 65.xx.

The only difference between those two drivers is that the 61.77 drivers have SM3.0 support added in while the 61.76 do not - the 61.76 drivers can have this enabled by adding a few lines to the .inf file. I am not sure what those are anymore but it is listed in the huge Far Cry/SM3.0 thread buried in the gaming section here at Nvnews.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been using 66.81 for a week or so. It gave my higher 3DMark2003 & 2005 scores and slightly better Doom3 performance. But BFV with 1024x768 4xAA/16xAF was choppy sometimes. It'd only work well at 2xQ/8xAF and with "High" instead of "Highest". Also, I was getting those white lines in CS:Source (not supposed to be there). Reverted back to 61.77, BFV performance is back on top with 4xAA, and no more lines in CS:Source. BTW, still 100fps in HL2 VST at 1152x864 4xAA 16xAF w/ Highest (pretty tight imho).

I upgraded to 65.73 and so far I like what I see. I haven't tested any games yet, but the drivers just have an all around nicer feel, more polished than 61.76.
