Has anyone had any overclocking experience with the Gainward GT NOT Golden sample that they would care to share with me as I have just purchased one.
Thanks guys
Dan

Well, i DO have the golden sample GT and it works great. The Expertool utility lets you manually set clockspeeds and fanspeeds. I clicked the 'enhanced mode' immediately, which is 400/1100 and NO problems ; all within warranty. That fact itself says enough about the core/memory quality. Alotta ppl take OC-ability a bit too much for granted imho. I myself am not into voltage flashing or extreme OC of the card. I just want the speed Gainward advertises (Ultra speeds) at 200% stability and lifetime quality.

So, i run it, at all times 400/1100 3D mode and 350/1100 for 2D mode (windows desktop) and idle temps are 41 - 47 degrees celcius, load temps don't go further than 59 degrees celcius. See my sig for further spec details. 3Dmark03 score was 12165 on 61.77 Forceware.

It's too late I know, but imho you should have gotten the golden sample GT.

isnt the Golden Sample identical to the non gs except for they overclock it for you. The problem is that the GT costs 290 and the Golden Sample costs 350. That can be interpreted in 2 ways.
A. Your paying 60 to have them overclock it LOL.
B. Your paying 350 for an Ultra which is a good price here in the UK.

Out of the box when you install the card it's at default 350/1000. The golden sample difference is indeed that with Expertool one mouseclick on the Enhanced Mode button is WITHIN the warranty. Basically this means that all components like the core and memory have passed the rigorous golden sample tests. The NON-golden sample cores didn't pass it. Of course I see no reason why your NON gs GT should be any less OC-able than any other brand card out there. It's just that there's no guarantee it will work stable at, say..425/1150, or at those speeds at all...

ok thats what i thought. It should overclock just as well as any others. MSI, Aopen, and most others use reference heatsink. The GT GS and non GS both have unique cooling solutions. Should be a good overclocker. Lets hope so. Ill be happy if I can get it to Ultra speeds. My mate got his MSI to Ultra speeds. Ill keep u posted

I manged to clock my Gainward GS to 435/1200 rock solid and very stable.

Many Ultras can't even reach that speed.

Yeah, but you have a very good PSU which can handle the load. We don't know what kinda psu Dan has.

I haven't tried going beyond 400/1100 myself yet. Though I might try soon. My Tagan480W should be able to handle it with 28A on the 12V.

Anyway, if Dan manages to get his non gs stable at 400/1100 or beyond, he's got himself a winner card.

I have a 400W PSU, I think it should be fine

Id have to argue against that statement truthfully. If you said a minority of Ultras cant reach that speed, I could agree. However, the only part that I would agree with is on the memory side in some cases. The reality is, that MOST ultras can reach 435 and higher with ease on the core. MANY can reach 1200 on memory, but there are some that can't.....luck of the draw....and out of those that cant are usually topping out at about 1170.

You were fortunate to get a GT that can pump the memory to 1200 :)
However, a good majority of Ultras can reach 1200 on memory and some even beyond that. My BFG 6800ultra can pump the memory to 1280.
Glad you got a great performer.:) Unfortunetely, my wifes GT can only get the memory to 1150

The word many was maybe to much I guess, but when I read across other forums and this one of course I see that the Ultra owners don't or can't reach 1200 on the mem.

I guess I'm lucky. :)
