View Full Version : CSS performance

Hey people,

I was wondering if any of you guys play css, and if so could you please tell me how (if at all) you are able to get the game to run smoothly, yet remain looking good. I am not comfortable playing at resolutions above 1024x768 so I have been using that res for css. Whenver I play in servers with more than 10 people connected my fps are in the red (cl_showfps 1) in the open areas of most maps.

I am really frustrated because my rig (see sig) should be able to get me into the green! I have tried altering settings a lot but nothing seems to give me much of a performance boost :(

at 1024x768 4xAA 8xAF, HQ (ALL OPT. OFF) vsync off, detail ALL HIGH, i get

CPU@stock+GT@425\1150: 87.8fps
CPU@stock+GT@400\1050: 85.8fps
CPU@stock+GT@stock: 83.9fps
Edit: CPU@3.07ghz+GT@425\1150: 100.04fps

This appears to be cpu limitation rearing its ugly head at me, but I really think I should be able to get better performance when im actually playing the game :(

I will update with some more benchmarks when I get my cpu O\C.

Believe it or not, even I get FPS in the red at 1600x1200 2x/4x with alot of players... I see the fps go as low as 30fps sometimes. I am almost certain it is CPU related because my fps also dips when alot of objects are flying around (physics) When I get my A64 hopefully I have better fps.

Turn on the optimisations, i can't see a difference in IQ in cs:s with them on. Should boost your fps a little. A lot of the lag is when physics are in use, like any moving objects, is actually server side lag, you need a beast of a server to run cs:s with lots of players PLUS the physics load. Like in Chateau when someone drops a grenade near all the planks, you get choppy fps even if you're nowhere near it.

I have the amd64 3200 and a 6800 gt, i run the tests at 1280x960 4xAA,16AF HQ (with digital vibrance, of course)and I get in the 130's on the stress test. Gameplay stays nice and steady, I rarely have any sort of drop. I also should add that I usually join servers >30 ping.(I have a steady 4mb down/768kb up too)

Get an Athlon 64 and forget about this issue.
