Looks good... Doom III scores especially

hmmm 2x 6600 gt - 2x au$390 = au$780
1x 6800 ul - = au$950

sli score beats the ultra in two of those benches. good value so far
probably can get better o/c scores with the dual 6600gt SLI than o/c 6800ul too!
all seems ok but wait a sec.
how powerful a psu do we need?
and how much money they are going to charge for those sli boards?

now the sli boards please.

jus a curious dum qstn about sli,
i dono how it worx, but
if u overclok the card, out of the 2 cards , the one inside, ifeel its airflow will b completely blocked. & it will get over-heated frequently.
even wen we use an agp card, we leave the 1st pci-slot vacant, in order not to hinder airflow.

Im sure something like this could be accomplished using a design similar to the NV5 silencer. Just have all the hot air blown outside the case elminating overheating.

You can probably bet there will be dual water block cooling systems for those SLI setups. ;) There will also probably be some air cooling setups specifically for SLI'ed cards.

including waterbloks, getting new designed HSF's for those cards, etc.. etc..
That sounds like "Woot, spending another 100's for a rig worth a lot of 100's"

Sli is expensive for any AGP user hu is intrested in upgrading to PCIe, one shld keep that in mind, and thinkin of upgradin to higher end cooling components will b imposible.
The rig wuld end up in 1000 mark.. TOO EXPENSIVE

(Just an ASSUMPTION)

Anyone who gets these SLI setups probably will have a lot of money to spare on expensive cooling systems. For those of us less fortunate, we can only dream.

i think a lot will come down to the price of the MB
remember 2 x 6600gt is alot cheaper than 1x6800u
who knows what other combinations will offer the best bang for the $!!!
not everone will be pairing 6800ultras.
a few things to take into account as well.
its a lot easier to sell 2mid range cards than to sell 1 top end model
also top end cards lose more money than mid range ones (on average)

edit
anyone know when they going to release these boards (cant wait to see a test).

This is defeantly promising, i plan to get my self to GT's or 2 Ultras depending on the prices, but there are a few questions like heat and the power, i am ok with the GT cause it has only 1 molex each...but ultra will end up with a total of 4x molex..unless nvidia changed something to have 1x molex for ultras..i sure cant wait. I will wait about 1 or 2 weeks after these come out before buying to see what kinda bugs will pop up.

I sure hope o/c will be good :D..imagine one card clocked at 350 while another at 400..half the screen 2 different speeds, i am guessing the clocks/mems have to be same speed. If so i might get a GT and just push them both to Ultra speeds and enjoy..i know for sure when the SLI's are out and i get them, i wont be needing a upgrade in the VGA department for a very long time lol.

And to think the gf6 series just broke 10k on 03 and were like OMFG?...and now we see nvidia almost getting 10k on 05..haha man 2 milestones in such a quick time..I CANT WAIT..

Australia better get these cards/motherboards i am gonna be very pissed.

The most important question is the space..it better not be a tight spot.

When i had the 2 voodoo2s on SLI..man so close, and took alot of space. :bash:

we will get these cards and MBs in australia for sure (maybe 1 month later), just dont wonna even think what those SLI MBs gonna cost here.
in these last 2 years GPUs have been growing at a pace not seen since the begining.

Well the new PCI Express video cards do not use Molex connectors, they use the new 6 pin PCI Express Video Connector

Oh yeah i forgot about that, man that would save alot of space. Well if 1 month it takes then its not bad, because this would give me time to see what results and bugs there are with other people who purchase this.

I wonder how ATi will compete..considering they have to make a whole new method themself.

I think i saw some thread about inqure saying it took nvidia 2.5 years to perfect the drivers.

Well done nvidia :D, cant wait.

I hope this will be under 4k AU because that will be my budget.

Btw what happend to 03 scores :(..i am guessing 20k in 03, because the first sli news we saw last time they said they got 18k...i think 03 is becomming like 01se now lol..a thing in the past ^^

I'm sure Nvidia will do everything they can for reach 6K and 10K in 3dmark05 with Ultra and in SLI mode lets hope :P

But how will be the politic of Nvidia for the future products?

The next geforces (nv50 and on) will they be more powerfull than 2 old geforce in SLI mode? or just the same? and about prices?

When I build my next rig I'm going to
use 2 of whatever card is next to the most powerful.

Like now it would be 2 GT's.
But I'm not building my next rig till spring.
Maybe I'll be able to buy 2GT's at a good price by then. ;)

alrite, another nooby question that popped in my head,
wat if a buy a 6600GT of MSi, and then a 6600GT of a different company say Inno3d, now will these conflict on trying to set 'em up on SLi or will they work fine?

one more thing, can a 6800GT And a 6800Ultra be SLI'd?
Or sumthin like 6600GT & 6800GT?
or 6600GT & 6600?
(mag) (newb)

If you flashed your 6800GT to the same bios as the Ultra you were running I dont see why they couldnt be SLI'd as long as they are running the same speeds. Anything in SLI will have to be the exact same speeds and number of pipes running (basically the same card).

This would make the GT again one of the better bang for back cards to go for SLI then push to ultra.

I hope that nvidia does a good job on there reference heatsink this time, i mean 30 bucks (AU) you can get a nv5 and it makes one hell of a difference for GT card..come on nvidia..dont be slack yo :)

The Voodoo2 cards (from where the term and patent for SLI is from) used an internal cable to connect the two cards and I suspect it will be the same for the nvidia solution, or will it be done through the pci-e bus instead?

Either way they can be set a couple slots away from eachoter to prevent heating, and you can always put one of those "waterwheel" fans into the slot below each card for extra cooling :)

They use a little chip, its there on the review site with a large picture showing what it does..small chip..does a big job :)
