The main games I have in mine for this massive videocard upgrade is Stalker, F.e.a.r., Doom3, Rtcw-Et, Joint Operations and Half Life2. Im planning to get either one of these cards to last me for 2 years and a half or until Longhorn releases.

I really need your guys help and I would be greatly appreciated if you guys can give me your reasons on which one I should get. So which is more beneficial? Hell, If you guys tell to hold out for the 6800Ultra, please tell me why?

Thanks again! :)

Well, the GT is much less $ and is more future-proof with SM3.0 support

just wait some weeks until HL2 is released so we can see final benchmarks with new drivers from nvidia and the miracled Ati 4.11 drivers :)

from my point of view i will say ... if the difference in price between them is less than 50$ then get a x800xt, if is more, then get a 6800GT.

And if money are not your problem then just run to buy a X800XTpe if you find it :D

Anyway if you wait for HL2 release maybe you will also see the new NV48 and R480 so you could see a price drop or why not maybe choose to buy one of these new cards :P

x800xt is definetely faster in all games but doom3.

O I forgot to let you guys know that price is not an issue up to $550.

Yea its just really a hard decision thats gotten my palms sweaty because, if I go with the x800xt,then soon next year in early spring Ati will be annoucing there new highend line "R520+" with ps 3.0 compatiblity and I will be left out in the dust with the x800xt ps2.0 wishing I should of went the opposite path. I'm not one to splurge money on mistakes or on videocards every 6-12months.So again. I really really need your guys help.

Thanks again.

if you have much patience then i suggest to wait ati release the R520 next spring because it will be based on XBOX2 GPU (or so i think) and i think will be lot of time more powerfull then X800XTpe. or anyway also waiting NV50 of course (i read that president of Nvidia said the source code of Unreal 3 will be included into the NV50 core :P ).

Anyway you said you want to change when Longhorn comes, so i suggest you to get a X800XTpe now for 500$ and wait Longhorn come because until that time you can be sure you will play all the games you want :P

or anyway wait 1 month for the refresh NV48 and R480 that "should" come eheh :)

hope have helped you.

Thanks for your help, buddy.

Yeah that R500 gpu is going to be pretty interesting. Im really pushing towards the GT because its cheaper, and has more features. Bascially meaning once I see reviews and benchies on the R500+ series I'll be able to sell the GT on ebay for atleast $299, when I paid $380 tommorow. So again I'm really gearing towards the 6800GT.

I heard that the Nv48 and the R480 will be pci-e only. Is that correct?

Another question I always had is whats the difference between the GT and Ultra versions of the 6800? I know Ultra has dual molex and higher clocks, but what else? Would the GT perform the same as an Ultra if clocks were matched?

I hope that means 512MB cards and that I can trade my GT in for a 512MB version and pay the difference...I dunno when my period for the step-up policy expires with my eVGA... :-\

I think will be stupid from them to do cards pci-e only, they will cut an huge part of market out if they do that.

I think they will both use bridge chips, ati has ready her bridge too named Rialto (eheh first they attack nv bridge, and then they use too hihi :P )

Is there anyone else who may have any benchmark comparisons with the 6800gt vs x800XT? OR any other advice because Im planning to order tommorow hopefully.

If money was no object I would get eitehr the GeFOrce 6800 Ultra extreme or XT PE depending on availabilty. I don't have a XT PE, perhaps u can ask Clay or MikeC who have the experience of owning a GeForce 6800 Ultra and XT PE. They can answer your questions better.

Thanks buddy for your reply. I do have a pre-order with Ati.com for a 800xtpe for 465 after rebate. But the only badside to that is that, they won't be shipping till Nov 12 and the Ati rep I spoke to guarnteed that mine will be shipped Nov12.

So if I do wait, it does give me time to see how the Gt and x800xt fair in benchmarks when HL2 arrives. But then again whats holding me back from the 800xt series is that I would be stuck with ps 2.0.

Anyways thanks Muya and hopefully MikeC and the other guys can help me decide asap! :)

Meh... you'll actually be stuck with PS 2.0b. The chances of it negatively affecting your game experience in the near future is pretty slim. Sure, it's possible, but I wouldn't let SM 3.0 be a deal-breaker if I were buying a card for gaming only.

why just compare the 6800gt to the x800xt why not compare it to the 6800ultra it is a more fair comparison. As you cannot readily get a x800xtpe but you can get the x800xt and the 6800ultra. Please compare two "available cards" that are the top of their class, the gt to the x800pro is a valid comparison not the x800xt to the gt.

Ok guys. If I do decide to get a GT what would be the top 3 brands to go for when it comes to overclockablity?

Thanks again.

Well I prefer either the GT or the 800xt because those are the only two cards that catch my attention when it comes to price vs performance ratio. The x800pro only has 12 pipes, not to mention lower performance.Imo I think the x800pro should be priced $299 or $349.

Another helpful tip: Im planning to run my games 100% at 1078x768 or 1178x864.

Now lets get back to the topic. :D

Pandora's Box Interesting link.

Ok guys I have another quick question(please bare with me):

By having lets say a GT core clocked at 415-425mhz does it perform the same or beyond a non overclocked Ultra?

Pandora's Box

since ultras are 425 mhz at 415mhz it would perform slower. at 425 mhz it would perform identical to a ultra.

btw that leadtek 6800 GT has a 100 percent copper cooler on it, cooling the front and back of the card.

Kick A$$!!!! w00t! :)

Now all I need to do is do more research on an OC'ed Gt vs Standard clocked 6800Ultra.

im telling you there is no difference between a oced gt to 425Mhz 1.1ghz mem. and a ultra at stock speeds.
