Still holding out for a FX-55, Nforce 4 SLI MB, and a decision on what type of memory to use.

If you want to see the new rig I'm piecing together:

I talked to EVGA about the connector (It doesn't come with it by default)

They will be available in 2 weeks and they wi'll ship it to me for free.

I got lucky to find the GameVE pricewatch post minutes after they posted it. They were sold out in under 15 minutes.

It's a 6 pin power for the PCI Express cards (They include a Y adapter for two 4 pin molex to 6 pin dual 12 volt)

I believe this is a new PS standard emerging. I've seen a few new PS that have 6 pin rails on them now.

The risk of buying PCIe 6800 Ultra's now is that the motherboards to support SLI are probably still a couple of months away. By that time the NV48/"6900 Ultra" might well be available.

I know where you're coming from though, as I want an SLI system also.

Actually the buzz I am hearing for SLI Nforce 4 is 2-3 weeks out.

SLI boards are already in the hands of reviewers.

They did have a problem with the A01 silicon and the 1000 Mhz transport bus. A02 silicon corrects that. Not sure why they delayed the Nforce 4 SLI to a few weeks after the single PCI express versions.

But VIA and SIS have a SLI chipsets ready to go too! It's going to be an interesting next 2-3 weeks with the mainstream lauch of retail PCI express MB's and video cards!

DIE!!!!!!!!!!

No really!!!!!!1

Ok maybe not die, but trip and stub your toe dang you, LOL!!!!

Glad to see them appearing tho. Good luck. I wanted to let you know that intel platforms can support DDR2 for system memory on the new 915 and 925 chipsets whereas AMD cannot at this moment without redoing their entire ondie chip design. OCZ has just released DDR2 memory in the 667 range and in a month they will be releasing 733 and 800mhz DDr2 memory. Here's the link:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/memory/display/20041014021130.html

The problem tho is that nvidia doesnt have a chipset motherboard for intel if you wanted an nforce4. However, there are other manufactures that do and have the 915/925 chipsets as well as supporting intels. So keep that in mind to compliment the sli 6800ultras you got. You probably want the fastest mem you can.

Have you seen the 2 articles up today on the failures on Intel?

Intel isn't going to regain the crown until late 2005 at earliest if they do at all...

The FX-55 is going to stand alone on the top for quite some time.

Oh and yes they do include a 2 molex to 6 pin power Y adapter for the PCI express cards. I specifically went with a 660W Enermax PS too based on the amount of power 2 6800 SLI cards will be consuming off 4 rails!

I don't take what The Inquirer says as fact and neither do most ppl. Now Im not going to say that there aren't problems for Intel, but the Inquirer likes to start crap and publish half truths. Maybe intel wont be quite as fast as AMD in some areas.....ok...well so what. All I did was give you a possible solution because of the DDR2. Since AMD cannot support it right now. But you are welcome to swallow whatever the Inquirer says as the gospel and that's your right I suppose.

Amen on that. I hate some of the crap they come up with over there. (bs2)

I'm sure intel will be right up there at the top.
It's a cat fight with AMD and Intel all the time.

I am planning to get SLI GT's because i think the power consumption from the Ultra's is gonna send my bill real high, plus the cost of them would be waay too expensive, it would be much cheaper to go for GT --> Ultra O/C.

While we wait, i might go for Ultra too, but can actually any tell me if the Ultra still consumes more power than the GT? Or if i want a Ultra, i might have to go buy a one of these 600W PSU?..Thats gonna drain my Electricity bill.

What about the cooling?

PS:I am from Australia..do you think its a good idea to order (if i get the chance) from USA like those stores to get my SLI cards, or should i wait..takes about 1 month for Australia to get these cards)

"I am from Australia..do you think its a good idea to order (if i get the chance) from USA"

I'm from NZ, and I can tell you straight up, you'll find it VERY hard to find any US dealers who will ship to... well.. anywhere. You'll need someone in the states to get them and ship 'em to you. Only BIG problem, is your warranty will be useless, so you won't be able to return the cards easily if something's wrong.

Anyone have any ideas when 6800 (basic/GT/Ultra) PCI-E will be released here in France or in the UK? I havn't seen any, only 6600 PCI-E's. It could be a supply thing as the 90nm Athlon 64's (socket 939) are very rare too. (dabs etc. still don't have them)

Graphicmaniac

ah no i have read the pdf now its clocked just at 400/1100

but shouldn't the nv45 be clocket at 425 for the gpu ???
