So it sounds like one of Google's next ventures will be IM (http://news.com.com/Will+Google+say+Hello+to+IM/2100-1032_3-5412359.html?tag=nefd.top) (yeah, there's the browser talk too). When Google acquired Picasa, the Hello IM (https://secure.hello.com/what_is_hello.php) was part of it. So I was wondering if anyone has used Hello. Thoughts?

It would be very cool if they used some standard and advanced protocol for IM and not invent their own. Jabber (http://www.jabber.org/) (or XMPP, which is the name for standard) looks like the best choice. Open protocol, very flexible and XML based.

If they add it to Trillian I guess I will use it, but I can't see google making a big impact in IM to be honest.

I don't IM, but you never know what kind of "kick yourself" innovation google may think up of.

I just want colored text for my gmail account,I hate not being able to use different fonts, and italicise or bold my text in emails I send. But the no color is really a downer. They should spruce up gmail first before dipping into the IM world. For IM,I'll stick to ICQ4 xtraz for now..
