View Full Version : nv47 to have 24 pipes ???
well there is some speculation over at b3d about whats going on with the nv 47
here (http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic=17171&forum=9)
well it sounds like instead of playing the mhz race nvidia is make a whole new race course :nanahump:

Would be realy realy cool big nice boost , however im highly sceptical about this , never in history a refresh part had altered core so greatly , refreshes usually have minor improvements , higher clock speed , more ram (mag)
well i thought i heard someplace that the nv4x series is highly modular .... but i could be wrong

Maybe this signals that NV50 is further away than many people think. The major release cycles are slowing, we all know that, maybe in the future the refreshes will take on more significance than they have in the past.

is nv47 supposed to be a high end part?
nm-- question answered...
but would the nv47 be a fall refresh or are we looking at next summer?

me too...
man some of u guys need to really look at the front page ;)
but a 6 quad GPU hmm ...thats a whole load of transistors which 110nm could help with and be plenty fast!!!
/me end mr. obvious mode
hmm anyone wanna buya 6800U in Hong Kong :p

id be really suprised if nvidias next high end cpu is over 30% faster than 6800 ultra. i think the one after that will show a big jump in performance. i wonder if theyre going to go the way of AMD and INTEL and use dual core. that would be interesting.

That would, in fact, be VERY interesting. Could you imagine a dual core, 32 pipeline, 90mm GPU?

dual-core is meaningless concept in the GPU world, or turn it around, GPUs have been dual (or more) core since TNT.
where they *might* go is dual-chip, in the high-end at least.
On a related note, I found it funny in the XGI interview on teh front page that the new Rep. spoke of SLI in terms of "not cost efficient" and "impractical"... heh, this coming from teh makers of the V5 and V8 Duo :p:p

I was thinking maybe something like the 6600 (4+4x1); 12+12x1 for lack of better terminology. If that's the case though, I would think the 6900 would have to be clocked quite high or employ 16+16x1 architecture or even the same 12+12x1 as nv47 but with higher clocks/faster memory.

Interesting, if NV47 is a 6 Quad part maybe they will slap on 3-4 Vertex Shaders as well???

dont you mean six or seven?

I mean in Addition to the already exisiting six :D

I agree. The DUO cards were total crap and were way to expensive. What do you get when you double the amount of slow GPUs? Something thats twice as slow :p

wasn't the next hight end gpu called nv48??? then what is this nv47?
thats what everyone thought well dave over at b3d said that the nv47 will have more pipes.... know one knows what the deal is yet
Yes-the next GPU is called nv48 but nv47 is likely to be NVIDIA spring refresh and it will probably compete with ATI r520 because as you know nv50 will be relased in 3Q/4Q 2005(according to rumours)...

ah ok, then nv47 will compete with r520?
then i'm not sure if 24 pipes will be enought ... i'm sure Ati will do a bomb with their next XBOX GPU.
I have an offtopic question, seeing the importance for nv50 chip in nvidia history, is possible that this chip will have 50 pipes? lol

Thats my idea for NV47
24 pixel pipelines
10 vertex pipelines
GPU 500 Mhz
RAM 1600 Mhz 256 bit
Fillrate 12000 pixels and 1,25 billion poligons/sec.
this tecnology + future optimizations into the gpu i think will make this gpu 2 times faster than 6800U

I think nVIDIA will want to hold off on the NV50 for as long as possible. We still don't really know if the R520 IS going to come out as early as all that in any case. We'll see I guess... depends how far they can push the NV40 architecture. I wouldn't want to be in either of the IHV's 'intelligence' camps at present - if you estimated wrong (in particular regarding the release of the other group's WGF part) you'd make a horrendous potential loss (especially if the whole Unified Architecture thing does all the things it's really supposed to). Of course, a lot depends on Longhorn, and exactly how much the next next gen games need.
In my opinion if nv47 will have 24 pipelines GPU clocked about 500mhz memory about 1600mhz 256-bit and 8 or 10 VS pipelines-it will be enough for r520 which is likely to have 24 or 32 pipelines- no more..Why??Because NVIDIA has great architecture with its NV4x...They can introduce some improvements, little changes and eliminate disadvantages into nv47 which will cause major speed improvement in comparison to nv40....
NV50-i think that it will have 32 pipelines and will be produce in 90 nm..It is likely to be relase in Q4 2005 and it will maybe have SM4.0 support..But as i say -MAYBE...
