Which is the coolest running 6800 Ultra video card? Stock cooling only.

Mine reached 90 Celsius while playing Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. Looks kind of high although people from Leadtek told me those were normal temperatures. Still, can't be 100% sure. I don't want to mod it b/c I want too keep m warranty.

it is all dependeant on factors....case...room temo..air conditioning then the HSF...etc..

The coolest ULTRA with stock cooler.
There's a ULTRA that comes with a innovatek Waterblock on it stock. Does that count. :P
Guess not so i'd say the leadtek with it'S copper HS. Not sure about EVGAs. They have copper HSs too now right?

I'm guessing Leaktek too.

Leadtek is hotter than Reference card. I'd say Gainward or MSI.

EVGA Ultra with a Copper Cooler would be the best

Even the 'hottest' cards seem to run within spec under the worst case cooling conditions.

they don't come stock with 'em but you can order one and install it yourself. my temp dropped about 3-4C on my evga ultra. mine idle's at 52c and i've maxed it out at 58c however it's in a big watercooled antec case with the side window that has an 80mm fan blowing right over the AGP slot and two exhaust fans

PNY 6800 Ultra (with an eVGA copper heatsink :) )

I have an evga basically with stock cooling.I have a vantec stealth pci card cooler 2 80mm fans blowing on it.Idels at 53 under load 58.Case temp 30c

I have good airflow in my case, with 4 x 80 mm case fans blowing all the time, two intake, two out... I keep them on high rpm, they are controlled by a Hardcano. The case is Aluminium, which allows for a better thermal transfer as well. I got a pretty neat wire job inside the case.

I know that temps depend on ambiental temperature. I also monitor the case temp.

My Leadtek usually idles at 62*C, with a case temp from 25 to 28*C. When it's colder in my room and the temp case drops to 19-22*C, it idles at 57-59*C and load up to 82-83*C. Now I don't use the air conditioning because it's nearly winter...

The GPU temps are reaching 90*C when the case temp is in the 28 to 29*C, that's when the air in my room gets warmer.

The other brands I can get right now (not 100% sure) are Asus V9999 Ultra Deluxe and PNY 6800 Ultra.

From what I've been reading here and there, my impression is that Gainward and pretty much all the reference designs HSFs manage too keep the GPU cooler. Please do not forget that Leadtek deviated from the reference design and while the heatsink is the best in the 6800U series, the fan is smaller and is not controlled by the driver/ GPU load. Which means it stays at the same speed no matter the load of the GPU.

Thanks guys for your help.

Gainward 6800 Ultra Golden Sample running 450/1200. After changing the thermal paste and replacing the noisy dual fan thingy with own built 2x8cm nexus case fans the card runs now 42C idle to 67C stress. Case temperatures about 30C.

my Gainward GT overclocked runs at about 54 after a couple of hrs gaming

Mine is pretty good in that it only hits 70C. 54C under load without water? I have to say I don't believe you.

yeah anyway this is an ultra thread, back on topic.

Deduct the ambient temp from the core idle temp and your left with an idea of how well your cooling is doing

Idle core 58 - ambient 40 = 18 degrees for an MSI nx6800ultra with a nv5 silencer.

yes its very warm here at the moment and my room is like a oven.

But my core will usually will be 18 degrees hotter on idle no matter what temps the ambient temp is. i.e ambient 20 core 38, ambient 30 core 48...

Under load core will go up around another 20-30 degrees.

Yep, hard to believe 54*C under full load, even for a GT.

Does anyone know anything about PNY 6800U? How hot does it run, considering it's a reference design.

ok i just ran Cod for an hour and went straight into control panel and it said temp was 58..a little more than i thought
