Is there such a thing as add-on coolers for the MSI5900xt vtd, I find the stock cooler to be insufficient at core clock >460MHz and ram >740MHz. Is there a way to add an OTES fan?

Since I removed my pair of 80mm fan that were blowing up from the bottom of my case towards the Video card, my overclocks have dropped drastically.

For example, how is this "VHC-L61"
What are your opinions of video card fan removal, is it clipped on the chip or glued on?

edit: Just checked my mobo, it wouldn't fit because of the northbridge heatsink and fan... anyone got more ideas?

edit2: anyone using "Arctic Cooling VGA Cooler, Model "NV silencer 3" -RETAIL"?

edit3: I just ordered the NV silencer 3 from NCIX.com, I'll give you all my impressions in 2-3 days :)

I received the nv3 yesterday, from online order till reception of the silencer, only 23hrs passed! That's with purolator the cheapest shipping at NCIX.com

Gonna study before installing it, later I'll try to post pictures and thoughts on the little baby.

Gotta admit its a bit stressful to toy with a GFFX5900...
here's the before and after shots:

(btw, that Photosmart 120 digital camera cost me 15$, that's canadian!)

Arctic cooling is pretty cheap on the thermal paste... I'm not sure I put enough on the GPU, in any event, my core speeds seem stable at 470 now. Which is the minimum I was gunning for. I know the rams make perfect contact, I'm not sure for the core though... but 470 used to lock-up before so... I'm happy :)

Next I'll test the ram back at 830MHz using the higher latencies of the 5900U. BTW, that DHES cooler is pretty big, I had trouble re-plugging my two HDs...!

Awsome. At least I now know for sure that it cools the ram and not just the core (although the ram hardly needs it unless some volt modding is done).

Actually, my ram, even with higher latencies can't go >770, now with cooling, 830!!!
My core is not cooled as well as when I used my two 80mm fans on the video card, I can only get 465 vs 470 that I had with the two fans.

Keep in mind the MSI 5900xt has absolutely no cooling on the ram. I'm satisfied, 465-830 100% stable is better than 450-770 with stock cooling, and it's better than 470-830 using 2 very noisy 80mm fans.

I'd have liked more thermal paste for the gpu though.
