I preordered a socket 939 3200 from the first batch that Monarch sent out. At the time I wasn't thinking of doing that much overclocking but after seeing Anand's results I realized the stock HSF wasn't going to do. I ordered an XP-90 and a Vantec Tornado. Unfortunately when I tried to remove the heatsink (whose shoddy thermal paste had glued onto the cpu) from the cpu without disengaging the CPU lock :ORDER: , it forcibly removed the CPU as well. Needless to say a few pins were bent. I sent it back to Monarch but they refused to do anything for me and AMD doesn't cover OEM processors. What should I do? I'm pretty sure I can bend the pins back into place, but they seem sorta fragile. Anyone know where I can get this repaired without having to buy a new CPU?

Just bend them back and be very careful.
I've done it many times over the years on cpu's.
If u r lucky all will work fine. :)
If not buy a new cpu.

The pins on a S939 are so close together it could be tough. I'd use a thin mechanical pencil. The trouble is any pencil you get might be too thick. Needle-nosed pliers might work well, too.

That's awful, a brand new S939 :(. Good luck.

When I bent the pins on a Barton once, I used a flat head screwdriver, just remeber not to use alot of presure, take your time.

I just had the same thing happen upgrading my P4's cooler to what I have now. I used my Dad's glasses (LOL - great view *RIGHTUPMUTHAFOIKINCLOSE*) and....a peice of plastic. Worked a treat! :)

Same thing happened to my P4, though when I tried to bend the pins back, one of them snapped off. Good times!

This is what i'm afraid of :( I don't understand why they won't cover all kinds of damages in their warranties.

Your real problem is how you are going to manage to sustain hearing once you've got that tornado running. All I can say is i hope you have a fan controller.

What the hell?! Did you like throw them in a blender or something? My guess is that you bent one and then purposely bent the others 'cause you knew it was *'d. I have no idea what else could do that, and to both CPU's.

That poor FX-55 doesn't know what's in store for it.

Umm don't I have to re-bend them if they've already been bent by the motherboard? Anywho about the tornado: I like loud fans what can I say. I leave the bathroom ventilation on sometimes to help me sleep :)

Had the same problem with few CPUs of my own. Credit cards work well. But I have a pair of tweezers that I picked up at RightAid, very narrow and wide nose on those, works well for fixing bent CPU pins. On the day I got my P4EE, when I was opening the plastic box, CPU went FLYING out of it. On its way down, a single thought crossed my mind. Ceramic, meet the floor tiles ceramic... Much to my surprise, it didn't crack, didn't even bend a single pin. Divine intervention or metallic heat spreader, you make the decision, but I sure felt lucky that day.

 wow, I read this thread and cant believed my eye how very unprofessional some people are handled the CPUs, well bended CPU pins are beyond me. I been plugged and removed Pentium 120, AMD K6-2, Socket A Athlon and Athlon XP CPUs and none of them pins were bended.

My advice how to remove the CPU properly if the heatsink was struck, never never ever forced to remove the heatsink, that can damage the CPU and the socket slot. Do use finger file to cut the thermal paste under the heatsink gently and then you will remove the heatsink safe. :)

I'm personally a fan of circular saws to cut those puppies out.
