If you have not played Morrowind then you most likely won't be too impressed with the visuals, we are talking about absolutely massive levels which you are roaming around and that kind of quality. And unlike Doom you can see things

The oblivion screenshots look more impressive than like friggin 3DMark2005 in my opinion. I thought Morrowind graphics were amazing back in 2002, it was using DX8 effects back then I think. The water was just amazing, and the draw distance was very nice, very detailed environment and characters. Now I'm basically saying same thing about Oblivion.

Well, I did at first...but it's SO easy to level in that game and then it just gets so tedious and boring once everything dies in 1-4 hits. Plus those flying Rock Racers or whatever are so ****ing annoying.

The only thing lacking in MW was the combat, except for the bow. Oblivion is suppose to improve the sword play and mode of travel (adding the use of horses should be interesting). Oblivion looks to be impressive but we will have to wait at least a year to find out.

Plugins made morrowind a lot better for me. Especially the retexturing\remodeling projects that made the game look a LOT better.

I was on the preorder list for the collectors edition and I had it before a lot of people, and I still play it once in a while with a bunch of plugins enabled.

BTW, theres a plugin that makes the cliff racers friendly so they dont swarm you. They only attack if you fight them.

And this game is going to be amazing. Seeing how theres still a year left of developement and those screens are at least a couple months old, its going to look amazing.

Check out the article by todd howard (developer). Its linked on the main TES page. He brings up some things that make me think this game is going to be a lot better than Morrowind.

I cant wait for this one :D

what are some of these plugins that make the graphics better? i would reinstall and play again if the game had a new face.

actually, give me a list and small description of the plugins you use, or at least your favorites, please.

Wow theres so many...

Well, Itd take forever to list all the ones I use (I must have at least 20 enabled when I play). Many of them are just small aditions.

I'll list a few major ones:
*Better Heads - has a few different versions for tribunal, blood moon etc. Basically adds more heads and replaces most of the old ones (except for the Argonians and Kajiit I believe) with much more detailed and realistic ones.

*Weathered Signs - Simple enough... changes the blank road signs so that they have bright (but weathered) writing on them so you can actually look at a sign and tell where to go, rather than having to walk up to it and put the cursor over it.

*Potion Sorter - changes the name of potions so that the effect comes first rather than the quality. IE. Quality restore health will be restore health quality. This will organize the potions in your inventory by there effect.

*Ring Texture Fix - Makes all rings and amulets have nice textures rather than showing up black. Makes hording treasure much more satisfying :)

*Atmospheric Sound Effects 3.0 - Absolutely amazing. You wont believe the difference. The world REALLY comes alive with this plugin enabled. One thing to remember, if you turn the music down to hear the beautiful scenery sounds, dont turn it all the way down. When the music is totaly off, some people have some skipping\jittering problems (I did... it sure was irritating trying to find the cause of that).

*Bank mod - This is really cool. Basically, it adds a banking system just like the one in daggerfall. It also comes with a "gold wieght" mod that makes gold have weight so you actually have to use the bank (or just stash it :p). I have this on but it does really effect the gameplay. Large amounts of gold get quite heavy (just like in Daggerfall).

*Windowlights - Make the windows glow from the outside at night. Pretty cool effect.

*NPC Schedules - I havent tested this a WHOLE lot, so it could make quests a little harder, but its really amazing what these guys did. With this mod, NPCs in most of the towns will be in different places, doing different things depending on what time of day it is. For example, a guy wont just stand in his house all day, he will probably be in a nearby bar or shop. It was pretty cool seeing Ninetoes (argonian) in Ra'Virr's shop walking around. Very refreshing. This also comes with a locks plugin that will lock doors at night.

*Cloak and Dagger - This is really cool too. It adds a special Rogue\Thief-type clothing shop in Vivec (I think in the Foreign Quarter). Lots and lots of new robes, cloaks, boots... everything. They also have some special thieving weapons (only 2 or 3 iirc).

*Leveled Magicka - This is AMAZING. I was always a thief\fighter type and never touched on magic in Morrowind. I started playing again a few months ago and tried a Battle-Mage type character. And it hit me. Being a magic user (especially focused on the Destruction school) in morrowind just plain sucks. Mostly because the maximum magicka increases extremely slowly, and it doesnt at ALL if you dont use skills that raise your inteligence (which many magic skills dont). This amazing mod fixes that! With every level you gain, you get 4% more magicka! It doesnt sound like much, but by level 26 (which isnt that high really) you will have TWICE the magicka you would normally have without this mod. This is really great. And it will even work on existing characters. You can enable and disable the mod as you please, it will calculate the max magicka without any problem.

*Better Bodies - Just like better heads. Makes the bodies more realistic and much more detailed... ahem. Yes, theres a nude option. I personally didnt see a reason for this other than to excite perverted geeks using excuses like "its more realistic"... but the option is there. Permanent undies, or total nekedness.

*Visual Packs - This is the single best thing that has ever happened to this game (short of being released). There are a few of these. If you look around some, youll find the website which tells you which ones you need and what order to install them in. It replaces most, if not ALL of the scenery textures in the entire game. They are amazingly more detailed. Ill find some screen shots and show them. With this pack, this game's graphics rival some of the newest titles.

Well I managed to name just about all of them. I have a lot more than this, but not installed. There are some other small ones, like key replacers (make them look cooler), tool replacers (same thing), furnature shop (havent tried this yet, but its running).

I also highly advise that you use Morrowind FPS Optimizer. I'll find a link to it in a minute. With a little tweaking and after some getting used to the program, it can do some amazing things. Never again will you have to complain about poor performance or short draw distances. With a few key presses (or even automatically) you can change the draw distance or cut out un-needed scenery objects.

Also, go to the official site and download all the official plugins that you think you will use. They have some pretty cool additions. I have a few "fun" mods im working on myself. Since they are so small, I'll probably post them some time for you guys to screw around with. If you want to try some other mods, go to Morrowind Summit. They have the best selection (thousands of mods actually).

Have fun :D

EDIT: Oh yeah, dont forget a mod to get rid of cliff racers! Just make sure you get one that corresponds to the version of the game you have. I downloaded one that requires blood moon, which I dont have. So I cant use it. I will go get one of these mods... and im probably going to play this some more tomorrow :D

EDIT2: Heres a link to the visual pack:
http://khalazza.production.free.fr/view_plugin.php?ref=29
After drooling at those screen shots and downloading the plugin, go back to their plugin index to get the rest of the required files. Just click the link at the top of that page.

And download the visual pack XT to finish it off(requires the other packs):

And here is Morrowind FPS optimizer. It was really buggy at one point, but its been updated a bazillion times (almost every day for a few months) and is quite stable now:

Its no longer being developed, but it doesnt really need anything else.

Guys stop teasing me or i'll go & install Morrowind again :bash: .. i already have nothing to play till HL2 arrives & i could get easily into it for the time being .

As for Oblivion i can say its has the best graphics i've seen so far ... definitely a "cant wait" game !! :drooling:

Morrowind did have some slight flaws but I think it is still just too damn fun, you get to own your own houses and guildhalls :D

The only thing that bothered me was the armour system, there was no real benefit to heavy armour since it takes so much inventory space with its weight, whereas you can get glass armour that is just as strong when you specialise in light armour. Hell trying getting a full suit of daedric armour and carrying anything else :D

I was so hyped for Morrowind. I liked it until the point I realized that I made absolutely no difference to the world, no one acknowledged my actions and the game world is almost entirely dead. It was a grand idea, which is grandly flawed.

No. The XBOX 2 looks like it's going to have some serious muscle. I just hope they think ahead and make things a little easier for developers by giving it a judiciously large amount of memory.

Oh yes when it gets to that stage it gets boring, when that happened I went white wolf hunting to get more white wolf armour. Then the game kind of screwed up and I could not make anymore because he would not finish the cuirass he was making :D

Stripping every ebony and glass mine in the world was also entertaining

TLM - The lighting Mod (just google for it)
Pretty neat, does a good job on the overall lighting, darkening darkness and stuff..
ALSO it changes your SNEAK skill based on the lightlevel.. sorta like Thief.
neat.

Oblivion looks kickass.
new battle system and AI, tons of better graphics, larger world then morrowind but with a Fast Travel System, and more..

those are hardly valid excuses? "The game was boring because it was too easy" isn't a valid excuse?

Alright, how about I got tired of running back and forth, trying to keep track of the hundreds of NPCs, I didn't care for the magic system, the enchanted items were lame as hell compared to D&D, and I would rather have played Baldur's Gate 2 or Planescape: Torment.
