The rights of people to defend their homes have been highlighted after a judge said he could not criticise a man who shot and wounded a burglar.

Kenneth Faulkner, 73, who had endured a number of break-ins at his isolated farmhouse in Ockbrook, Derbys, has not faced any charges.

The burglar he shot, John Rae, 22, was given a seven year jail term on Monday.

About freaking time some common sense came into our justice system

Meh... if somebody broke into my house I would make sure to kill them. I know it sounds bad but I wouldn't want some guy pissed off at me coming back trying to get me after 10 years :\.

I don't know about Texas, but here in Georgia they have really retarded laws about what you can do to defend yourself during a break-in. Apparently, you are only allowed to respond with equivalent force - so if a guy breaks in with a knife, you can't shoot him - you can only stab him. Makes a whole lot of sense, right?
