I'm in the market for a new 6600 gt, and was doing some research accross the manufacturers. On MSI's site, I found a VIVO variant of the gt - which is pretty cool to begin with. So I went ahead and downloaded the manual for the 6600GT-128E. Opening it, lo and behold, under the wiring diagram theres also a reference to a 6600GT-256E. MSI has no mention of this product on their site yet. this manual can be had at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/manual/mnu/spt_mnu_detail.php?UID=622&kind=2
(the "lite" one, havent checked the other.)
Now, out of interest, I googled the 256 model up, and actually found it on sale! I'm not quite sure what country this is in, or in what language it is, but regardless, heres the site:
http://www.databutikken.com/no/default.php?artId=MSINX6600GT256E .
So logically - its not going to be long before these start showing up in states.
If so, this is really good news. Would be nice to see some numbers too, though....

If GeForce 6600GT could have been sold for 199$ with 256MB of ram i think it could have been remebered in history like the best videocard ever :D

My guess it'll probably cost at least 250, but if it'll cost 199 then it'll be a dream come true.

a 6600 Gt with 256 MB of GDDR3 would require it to be sold at 249US. Like the X700 XT 256MB.

agree. but not going to happen. the gddr ram that the 6600gt uses is pretty expensive. i assume it prob costs nvidia at least 30-40 dollars wholesale for each 128mb gddr of that frequency chips.

I've a feeling that we will see pretty soon 6600GTs with 2.2nS DDR-1 RAM at 450MHz.

Reverting back to DDR-1 may cut costs down enough to make a 256Mb part still possible.

Which one would be better then? I'm thinking the 128 GDDR3 would be better than the 256 GDDR1, but I don't know.
