Doesn't look like this belongs in the NV section.....

well i was wondering about that but since it deals with ati following nvidias lead & the possible memo concerning nvidia i thought it was a 50/50 deal & put it there.
figured more people would get the info there.
anyway, sorry if it was not appropriate.

it just means that ATI users must upgrade gpu when sm3.0 becomes standard while nvidia geforce 6 series users don't have to.

As for SLI, only nvidia mobos will support it anyways. This means no SLI for Intel users. ATi don't need to worry about that at the moment since most users have AGP instead of PCI-E. But i think ATI wishes they though of it first.

Intel boards already support sli and are already in use.

intel boards DO NOT support sli. nvidia suports it with their sli enabled boards, alienware supports it with their propiatery setup. if it is ever realised.

Yes they do.

If you order Alienwares SLi setup today, you get an INTEL motherboard.

All Nvidia tech previews were shown on the same INTEL motherboard.

AFAIK the mobos Alienware used were custom made based on Intel chipset. Water cooled and powered by 800 watt PSU. Some close-up shots:

i did not make that clear. sorry. sli is a propriatery tech from nvidia. intel supplies the mb with 2 slots. but does not support or have anything to do with sli. if ati came up with something similar you could put 2 ati cards in that intel mb.
lindys post pretty much tells it how it is - "Area-51 ALX with NVIDIA SLI Technology."
no big deal. as long as it works:)
cool setup!
