I noticed that board has Serial ATA which supports RAID 0, 1. Will the Serial controller also do parallel RAID 0? If so, I'm gonna buy that board because I don't want to spend the extra money on a separate PCI RAID controller card.

No onboard video on this board. Those are going to be delayed until possibly after Christmas.

as far as i can tell, the serial ata only supports 2 devices making raid 0+1 impossible :confused: i thought sata was supposed to be better then IDE

Sorry, should have been more clear. I mean RAID 0 and RAID 1. I have my system set up in a RAID 0 array right now and would like to know if I can use the serial ATA RAID controller for my parallel ATA drives. :)

ID like to know too. I just realized that I have 6 IDE devices in my system right now (burner, dvd drive, another cd drive and 3 HD's)

I read theres some kind of adaptor can be used to hook up regular ide drives to the SATA, but it appears the ASUS board doest include one.

I think this (http://www.siig.com/products/ide/features/SATAtoUATAAdapter.html) is what we're looking for. It's made by the same company whose serial ATA chip is in the Asus A7N8X. However those adapters cost $40...each and only support 1 device. You're probably better off spending $70 or less on a PCI RAID controller. :(

Newegg has the new ASUStek nForce2 MB in stock again at $150 instead of the previous $200. The LeadTek is $135, has less fewer features, and is out of stock.

Why would anyone want onboard video? I mean, its useless, and doesn't it hinder system performance sometimes? Even tho I use Intel, that was one of the things I looked for, NO ONBOARD VIDEO. Never want that popping up and slowing me down for any reason.:D

As a high-end gamer, you have a valid opinion. However, on-board graphics has benefits for we lesser mortals :p

Personally I like the onboard graphics so I don't have to buy a new video card when I move my best AGP card into a new favorite system. Last week I retired an MSI nForce Pro from main machine to MP3 server. With onboard graphics, the MP3 machine didn't require a new video card purchase when I removed the AGP card.

The nForce1 IGP reference and commercial motherboards that I've played with all gracefully ignored the onboard graphics when an AGP card was used. Matter of fact, when I removed the AGP card from my MSI board, I was amused to see "New Hardware Recognized: GeForce2 Integrated Video" or somesuch. :o Not being recognized by the OS is a tiny but valid sign that the onboard video wasn't hindering the AGP video.

Your milage obviously varies. I don't mean to be a boor, but I do think there is an alternate and valid viewpoint. I'm waiting for the nForce2 motherboards with an IGP before spend my money.

if you use an add-in 3d board the onboard video shouldn't affect performance in the least. it will add extra cost to the board though. and if you have no intention of using it, why pay for it.

The Asus board looks to be packed with goodies. I got tired of my old and busted Athlon 700 system with PC100 SDR so I went and ordered the A7N8X DLX, two 512MB PC3500 DDR modules, a Taisol cooling fan and an Athlon 2800+ from Newegg.

The biggest feature has got to be all of the integrated peripherals. The only two cards I'll have to keep are my Geforce 3 and Adaptec2940UW. I can finally ditch my AWE64 ISA card for good. Yaay!
