Im looking for a heatsink for the 3000+ i will be buying shortly. I will be using it on the msi k8n neo 2 platinum motherboard and i do plan to overclock. I go to lan parties frequently so weight is an issue.

im looking at:

thermalright slk 948u with a sunon 92mm 48CFM fan
thermalright xp-90 with a sunon 92mm 48CFM fan
zalman 7000A all copper

any suggestions?

I like the zalman. The slk will cool a tad better supposedly depending on what sort of fan you use. But the zalman is nice and quiet yet effective @ the same time. :)

Idon't hear of this one that much but it is a great HSF and the price is not bad ,the Thermaltake Venus 12 it is all copper with 73 fins plus it has a nice controler that fit in a floppy slot and it has one to fit in the back in a PCI slot if you don't want one in the front, plus I like the tooless clip to install it,and at 2000rpm it put out 27cfm 21db all the way up to 5500rpm at 73cfm at40+db or it has the thermal sensor to control the fan speed and it cost $29.99.I use it on my A643400 with a MSI K8N Neo Platinum and my idle tempertures are 37C to 40C and my load tempertures are 48C.

You should be just fine with that cooler. The cu would cool a little better then the hybrid aluminum one but it's probably only a 2-3c difference @ most.

One caveat. Don't plan on using a Zalman ZM80 series cooler on your video card as it won't play nice with that motherboard.

have no intention of using a zm80 cooler. had a bad experience with one on my 9700 pro. would of gone copper but i figured the weight isnt worth the risk. especially since i go to lan parties. would of gone with the xp-90 but i cant find it in stock anywhere.

I have the cu but don't go to LAN parties or move my PC very much - so I'm pretty safe there I think. To bad about yer 9700, my XTPE loves my ZM80D-HP. :D

I have owned both the Zalman 7000a cu and the Thermalright SP 90. If you couple the SP-90 with a panaflo H1A fan I prefer it. This thing cools like nobody's business. The Zalman will work fine if you prefer it, as will the other. I have nothing but positive things to say with the current air cooling I have. As always no matter what you buy couple it with arctic silver five.

This panaflo fan pushes slightly harder than the one most recommend it is 56.8 CFM vs 48 tops for the other. I'd get this one. It rocks.

Don't forget to buy a fan tail. Panaflo sends out their fans with bare leads.

My rig can push 2.6 on air, I just hate to tax it to that level, vs 2.5 it equals about 4FPS in the doom bench at ultra quality 800x600 or 115 vs 119.

Good luck with your Winchester. I fecking love mine. If I run my rig at a 9 multi with 3HT, 5:4 ratio or 166, and a 281 FSB I am only 1 FPS behind my Doom bench at 250 x10 4HT 1:1, that's 114 vs 115. You should love your 3000 90nm.

Do yourself a favor when you get the MSI board and start it with one stick of ram in dimm1 closest to the CPU. After you are done installing everything flash to beta BIOS 1.36. its great for overclocking. Also if you are using SATA install both those drivers on the disk, storage control and RAID. Also SATA ports are not enabled by default. Turn on 3/4 and use them. 1/2 = no no for overclocking as they do not lock.

Also I might add this,

If you have an nVidia card and experience occasional freezing in your games for a few secs, kill fast writes in the BIOS. Also I was getting crashing to blue screen when leaving Lineage II to desktop. Removing SP 2 fixed the issue.
