yeah, which means off-topic, general discussion. There is a specific forum for talking about video cards, in fact: there are numerous ones.

I think they shoud not reject the plan to put 2 or more chips into one card and then also do that SLI idea. The cost would be enormous to customers but using several chips could give exellent results. 4 chips per card x 2 cards ~ 8 times more horsepower.

The power consumption would be absurd, not to mention the amount of memory bandwidth you'd need. I mean... yeah you'd need a MASSIVE rate of data transfer to the memory to make it worthwhile. (Well, on the one card at least - I suppose you could theoretically give each chip its own memory, but that would get even more expensive.)

I still dont get what this thread is about... whats it have to do with ATI copying Nvidia's SLI technology?
And yes, 3dfx created SLI but its different technology. Their SLI was Scan-Line Interleaving where each chip rendered every other line of pixels (i think thats how it worked). I dont even remember what Nvidia's is called, but its different tech all together. They just used the SLI name to attract people that knew about the old 3dfx tech of the same name. It basically accomplishes the same thing through 2 seperate cards, but they way they do it is very different.

I agree, I'm not entirely sure what the point of the thread is. In any case, nVIDIA's version is called "Scalable Link Interface".

Most likely Poop stirring....and it was the inquirer's headline.
Other inquirer's headline

I feel Nv SLI or ATi multi GPU will flop!
Its jus too expensive for many people. If nv are workin accordn to the voodoo trend, they'd pro'lly introduce sumthin new like DUAL GPU's on 1 card like voodoo5 or sumthin. (remeber, durin the GF4 ti times). (mag)

Will ATI MR and nVidia SLI only work on their own motherboards? I hope not for obvious reasons.
yeah, they'll work ony on teir own mobo's.
they are developed in such a way!
