View Full Version : Logitech MX700 and MX Laser Hesitation Problem

This is driving me nuts lately...

I used a Logitech MX 700 for the over a year without any problems. In the past few weeks it started "hesitating" (the pointer would freeze in place for a second and then be fine again for a bit). Other times, it would stop working altogether until I did the connection sync dance with the base station and mouse.

I did all the typical reinstall/removals of MouseWare, the mouse itself as a hardware device in Windows, etc, etc, etc. Still had the same problem. The base station has been in the same location all this time prior with no problems and my mouse is in close proximity to it.

So, I bailed on my MX 700 and purchased the MX Laser. SAME problem now.

I'm about to pull my hair out and just punt by going back to a corded mouse. I do not want to do this but I'm running out of ideas.

Any ideas?

I think it's normal. Mine hesitates if it sits there for a while. Always has. There must be some sort of timer going on there, not sure what it's set @ though. I am guessing it's doing that to conserve the battery life.

Hmm...well it doesn't seem normal in relation to how it behaved for the majority of the past year (my MX 700 that is). There is now noticeable, frequent stuttering which was never the case before.

Sounds like you got a another problem other than the mouse, especially since you went out & purchased the MX1000 & its doing the exact same thing. Appears it may be receiving inteference from another device. Have you installed anything else new lately? Speakers, monitor? Another thing to test is if try using just the default windows drivers, does your mouse behave the same way?

I use the logitech mediaplay mouse for just regular browsing at home & the only time it bahalfs that way is if its receiving interference from another device, be it speakers, monitor or whatever. The issue in your case though is that your base hasn't moved for months & its worked just fine in the past so that should rule out any problem with the hardware itself.

Yeah it's very puzzling. I've not changed/added any devices in the vicinity that would affect the RF transmission. Yeah, I've used just the HID Compliant driver from Windows with the same result. Crap I don't want a corded mouse but this is at work and I can't afford the constant annoyance of this stuttering.

Good guess :) But I'm at work and there have been no changes around my office.

I dunno if this will help, but my MX900 plays up if I overclock my system to high. I'm pretty sure this is due to I have a 6800GT, 2HDs, 2Optical Drives and a Prescott in a system with a 350Watt power supply.

I'm getting a OCZ PSU now, which should sort a few problems out

Thanks crainger but that wouldn't be the cause in my case. This is at work on my laptop (not overclocked). Thanks for the ideas though. :)

I had a wierd freeze/jump problem with this MX1000 when I first bought it also, and only in USB mode, I flipped it to PS/2 with the adaptor and bumped up the port speed and haven't had a problem since. I never did figure out what it was, but I know it only happens in USB mode for me. Could be an overclocking thing or something. (mag)

Thanks Gib, I'll try just the PS/2 cnxn. BTW, I'm not overclocking...this is my laptop at work that has the problem.

Have you upgraded your laptop to SP2?? If you have that might be an issue as SP2 does play around with the wireless abilities of XP. I have also known of Laptops that just don't like Wireless mice, but you mentioned that it worked fine before...

Hows the Laser mouse when its working?? I'm thinking of getting one to replace my MX900 which isn't an ideal gaming mouse.

I love it. I replaced my MX700 with it, and I am glad I did. It is noticeably more smooth, especially when gaming. It seems less twitchy when I am moving very slowly when zoomed in through a scope etc.

The only thing I have noticed is if you use the off switch to turn it off at night or whatever to save batteries, mine reads battery empty and doesn't work sometimes when I turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on again a couple of times before it reads full again.

I also have the MX1000 and its awesome mouse. I love it. Its my first wireless mouse experience. Funny thing is I don't think Logitech advertises the MX1000 as a gaming mouse. Its primarily geared toward professionals like photoshop users for speed and accuracy, but I use it for games myself. I've used it on FPS games and rpg like WOW beta. Very smooth and responsive.

Just curious, why do you shut off the mouse? The mouse has an autosleep mode when not in use. Wake up response is very quick. On a full charge, it takes about a week before the first led goes out.

Coz even when auto sleeping it has to check for motion otherwise it would never come back on again... I believe all auto sleep does is monitor movement every 1/2-1 second instead of all the time. Well at least thats what my MX900 appears to be doing.
