View Full Version : Post NV30 related news here!
I thought we need this one back to the forums ;) :D
So to the point, here's some news:
.13u process
AGP 8x support
DDR2 Memory support
Vertex Shaders beyond DirectX9 VS2.0 - supporting up to 1024 static instructions, 65536 instructions executed in loops, branches, and subroutines
Pixel Shader beyond DirectX9 PS2.0 - with up to 1024 instructions
Support for OpenGL and DirectX HLSL via Cg
OpenGL Extensions supporting long Pixel Shader & Vertex Shader programs
High Precision (64- and 128-bit Floating Point color)
New focus on computational efficiency rather than memory efficiency
Advanced programmability and high-level shading language support
Expected this fall along with DirectX9
EDIT: And it has 256 bit memory bus (http://www.nvmax.com/Articles/Previews/NV30_SNEAK_PREVIEW) :D
mmmmmmmmm drool drool
hay are we going to get our tags back i was just about to become an nv2 heheheh
I've also heard that there will be 17 different nv30 chips (!!) correct me if I'm wrong.

Where did you here this? I would think there would be a few variations if you count Workstation market, rendering market (new market), High end Desktop market, Midrange, and eventually budget market.
Im not sure how quick nvidia will be to release a budget DX 9 part, something thats in a reasonable price range anyway. The Radeon 9000 brings DX to the masses, Looks like it maybe a little to expensive to have a budget DX 9 chip at moment. TO think about it not that it really matters considering how Software development has to catch up with the hardware anyways.
Also isnt the NV31 rumoured to be slower than the NV30 any thoughts?

No idea.
R300 was a good effort, but if nv30 is anything like what it's rumored to be, ATI gets OWNED.
Hehe Funny pic, I guess it comes down to what means fast or better. Will NV30 perform faster and better than R300 in current games, applications and benchmarks? to do so would surely rely on a good memory subystem.
Either a 256bit memory interface or greatly improved efficency either one or both coupled to DDR2 memory should prove to be formidable for Nvidia giving the Hardware specs attuned to it.

hehe thx :)
but future apps are what count!

I heard it was about 12. Just think 3 for mobile/laptops 3 for normal desktop (hi-end) 3 for desktop (mianstream) and 3 for workstation and there you have it, 12 chips.

after thet, will it be like nv30 ULTRA or new architecture?
are the 12 chips all the chips that will be based upon nv30 or just the first gen nv30 chips?
A little off-topic:
Don't you think ATi is a little bit stupid for not releasing 9500 next month? Because 9500 arrives about the same time as nv30 and nv30 will have (rumors) budget cards (dx9 (not some crappy gf4mx type of things :D )) that (I think) will kick r9500's ass...
I'm not going to buy a 9700 because it costs too much and I think many people think about the same...
I really hope that Nvidia brings another gf4ti4200 version of nv30 to the xmas season, but if they don't they're gonna lose me and probably others as customers...
Just my 2 cents :D

The ti4200 was great. It would be a shame if NV didn't release something similar.
$700 CDN for a vid card doesnt appeal to me.

I don't work at NV or anything but I would say they will be releasing cards like Ti4600, Ti4400, Ti4200 in each section like the GF4.
Everyone, point your browsers to the following link for some mindblowing info:

OMG, I just realised something:
Published by NVIDIA Corp Developed by NVIDIA Corp Previews >> Video Cards >> 2002-07-27
Hmmm...Well, if that's the case, then how can one take this any other way? It pretty much sounds to me like NVMax signed an NDA, wrote up their short article, handed it to nVidia for 'review'...got it back, and posted it on the net.
Well...Regardless of what has been said in the past, this appears to be a rather definitive statement, and one which nVidia has clearly had some influence on...

Do you think we could probably say real time for the pics (the article makes it sound like we could)
Published by NVIDIA Corp Developed by NVIDIA Corp Previews >> Video Cards >> 2002-07-27
I was confused by this when I first saw it - if nVidia did review it do you think it would say this?
EDIT - read the last sentance!
Our thanks to NVIDIA Europe for passing on the info.
Yes, I think so! :D
And here is another quote from there:
Our thanks to NVIDIA Europe for passing on the info.
OMFG, DaveBaumann from Beyond3D received the same news!!!!!!!!
If this is the same info I have then its a guess.
Where do you suppose the information on the main page came from?

I'll tell you what I'd like to see. Now that the nv30 has 128bit color precision it can actually keep up with 3d workstations in IQ. I think a dual-nv30 quadro would be a godsend. Of course it would need an external power connector and 256mb per chip, but I dont think most people with a need for that kind of power would mind, or mind paying $1500 for it. I know I wouldnt mind

INSANE :)

That would definitely be an insane ammount of power. NV30 should be interesting to say the least, and if it's everything it's cracked up to be then it should take nVidia into the next-gen in 1st place.

What about 3dlabs' entry...

It should be nice, but pricing could be an issue.
The only other point we can share is that NV30 will use a 256 Bit memory bus and DDR2 memory.

i thought the nv30 was using a 128 bit ddrII bus not a 256 ddrII bus can some one please clarafy this for me please

no, because that way they sell more 9700s. they know all the fanATIcs will rush out and buy an R300. but if they released the R9500 people might be inclined to buy it instead.
ATI is well aware that many people will still buy an ATI card over an nvidia card, because they hate nvidia, period. so when NV30 comes out, those people will buy a R9500. ATI wins both ways. not to mention the price on the R9700 could be dropped to compete if ATI still has their inferiority complex

P10 is a joke AFAIC. have you seen the quadro4 benchmarks compared to P10? considering the P10 is supposed to by a workstation card first, it gets slapped around by the latest Quadro drivers. 30.40 i think, so these might be new dets.

rets:eek: If I remember well, NVidia stated implicetely nv30 would not use 256 bits, announced the tape out (end of design); ATI launched the R300, we heard of unexpected delays for nv30 and the last thing we know... bing! It is there! Looks like the architecture team has been busy during those unexpected delays... :)
