How come when i turn on anisotropy to maximum and FSAA to maximum i don't really see that big of a difference?

I don't get it. I mean am i the only one that can't notice really no difference from no anisotropy and FSAA to maximum anisotropy and FSAA? I know they suppose to improve image quality by getting rid of the jaggies. I tried quake 3 arena without anisotropy and FSAA and with FSAA and anisotropy. Didn't seem like there was a big difference. I tried Nascar 2000 with no anisotropy and FSAA. Then i tried Nascar 2000 with anisotropy max. and FSAA max. and really saw no difference. I don't get why i can not see the difference.

BTW i am on a Leadtek GF4 ti 4400 video card.

Have you seen FSAA on and off, I mean are you sure you know what you are looking for? are you sure they are not working? maybe take a couple of screenshots and compare them.

Otherwise, maybe your drivers need reinstalled. I also had a problem using a tweak utility, it overwrote anything I set in the drivers.

I am using RivaTuner 2.0 Release Candidate 11.1 for FSAA and anisotropy. I know its on. No i really do not know what i am looking for but i look on the ground to see if it looks any different in the game but it really doesn't. I really can't see the difference. I mean maybe alittle but hard to notice to me. Is it just me or what ? I mean heck even on the reviews of a picture in a game of no FSAA and anisotropy then with FSAA and anisotropy i really could not notice a difference there either.

Disable MSM. :)
Multisample Masking.

K.I.L.E.R i tried without that before it still never made any difference to me.

what resolution are you using?

Using 4xs makes a night/day difference in nascar 2000, so maybe you have some problems with your drivers. By the way nascar2000 has its own aniso-fsaa settings so maybe it overrides rivatuner settings.

Try using det 30.30 with rivatuner 11.1, it may solve your problem and also you will be able to tweak aniso performance settings under D3d.

Also check "Force AA in all D3d applications" and disalbe multisample masking.

Cotita ok but i have it on i know. Also Cotita how extactly do i get the 10% performence increase in anisotropy and FSAA
with the 30.30 drivers and rivatuner 11.1? Do i have to use 30.30 drivers for the 10% performence increase in anisotropy and FSAA?

Thanks

I am using the 29.42 drivers right now btw. And i was playing nascar 2000 demo. It made alittle difference but not a lot.

yes you need the 30.30 drivers for the aniso performance increase. The performance increase is about 10% for opengl aniso and 10~30% for d3d. You can try the guru3d forum for more tips about rivatuner since Unwinder (the author) posts there frequently.

I don't understand how to get the anisotropy and FSAA performence increase could some help to explain it to me please?

Thanks.

for OGL i thought increases are seen in all drivers 28.90+

straight from RT pageAdded 'Anisotropic filtering quality preferences' OpenGL option for the Detonator 28.90 and higher, which allows to select either performance optimized or quality optimized anisotropic filtering algorithm on GeForce256 and higher.

but yes, you need 30.30 for the D3D enhancements

Thanks.

nvidia adds settings in the drivers which are not enabled by default, and need to be changed by the user(either by editing the registry or by using a tweaker program)

StealthHawk So how do i do that please?]

Thanks

for OpenGL, go to the OpenGL settings in RT under driver settings. pick the Rendering Quality tab. at the bottom is the "Anisotropic filtering quality perferences." choose "performance optimization." done.

for Direct3D, go to the Direct3d settings. pick the Textures tab. AF options are at the bottom. click on the "Optimize" button. you will need to change these settings, depending on the game. there are no definite settings that will give you an X% increase in every D3D game though.

StealthHawk you sure thats it? I was reading it was not too easy to do and had to know what you were doing.

as i said there are no definite settings that will give you an X% increase in every D3D game though.

let me elaborate. the D3D AF optimizations work by not performing AF filtering on certain textures. there are four "layers" from what i understand which are tweakable. in other words, in some games, you know what layers are safe to disable AF on(such as Unreal Tournament because the programmer of RivaTuner listed good settings), on others not. so it becomes a basically mix and match game of IQ vs performance.

You are right, but Rivatuner 11.1 has a patch that gives you a performance boost for OGL that gives you the better performance using det 30.30 than previous versions.

There are beginning to appear some suggested settings on the guru3d forums mostly for UT engine.

Again I encourage imtim83 to visit the guru3d forums www.guru3d.com , who better to explain rivatuner settings than Unwinder himself.

i see. anyway, 29.42 or whatever driver revision i'm using at the moment seem to work fine, except that the original Unreal has serious graphical glitches. after i switch back to older drivers to play it i'll get 30.30 and give them a whirl(or hopefully Det5 will rear its head before that time :) )
