Hello all, thanks in advance for the help. I read alot of articles, but not as much lately and wanted to get your opinion on what vid card to get.
I currently have a 5900Ultra (EVGA) and am going to be playing ALOT of Everquest 2 (Very graphically intensive) as well as other new games. ATI is out of the question for me (not because I think they are bad or anything, just used to Nvidia.) Anyway, how much better is the 6800 Vanilla over my 5900 Ultra? Same goes for 6600GT - (when it becomes available AGP) how much better if at all? I'd really rather get a 6800GT, but as you can tell by my choices I'm somewhat limited to about $300 and havn't seen a 6800Gt for that price. Any suggestions?
Thanks Again

PS. The rest of my system specs are 3.0 P4, 1GB HyperX, 36GB Raptor and 160GB WD 8mb.

i would pick up a regular 6800 for around 250-260 or if at all possible save an extra 60-70 dollars and grab a 6800 gt. 6600 gt agp is a great card for the sub 200 dollar category but it isn't out yet. all of these cards should give you an improvement over your current setup.

link to a big comparison. click on the links you want to see benchmarks for.

I would flash your 5900 to a 5950Ultra and call it a day!

That wont help him in EQ2 though. If he can afford it a 6800GT would be best.
A 6800 vanilla would be a lot better than a 5850U of course but i'f you are on a tight budget you should try and get a cheap asus GT. On of those with full 16 pipes and GPU clock. The memory is a bit slower than on a real GT but the card will still be great in EQ2 and faster than a 6800NU.

Keep your eye out for a sale on a GT.
Check the net "every" day.
But if u must have one quick
get a BFG 6800. It come with farcry free
and it's factory overclocked.
You can soft mod it to a GT with any luck. :)
Happy gaming. :)

Nice :) You will not be disappointed in the GT... Guaranteed. 16 pipes, 6 vertex shaders, SM3.0... 350/1GHz clockspeeds, that could easily get close to an Ultra's speeds. At stock its about 5 fps slower than a stock Ultra. Pure unadulterated sex gliding across your computer monitor :nanahump:

Oh yea, and I fixed the spelling on your topic... w00t! :condom:

I only paid $280 for my Albarton 6800 which has all 16 pipes unlocked and is clocked at 350/850 which matches the 6800GT's fill rate. But, if you can afford a GT I would recommend that instead.

how does that match the gt's fillrate?

Well in that case I would still flash it to 5950 Ultra and sell it on Ebay! I sold my PNY for $260 bucks and it payed for more than half the price of my PNY 6800 Ultra.
