View Full Version : Official DX9 Beta from MS... Anyone?
So I'm asking, who was brave enough to install the recently released Official MS DX9 Beta? Do you find any games run faster/smoother than before? Specifically UT2K3, and what kind of performance before/after DX9 Beta install...
Thanks for all input posted.

Me, and yes. Haven't tried UT2003. I don't expect anything magical, but it is better. I think I need more than 256 megs of RAM so my damn games don't do annoying **** like the pausing I get. (Max Payne always has, now practically everything does at certain points...it could just be win2k...who knows)
To elaborate, I have at least tried Mafia demo and Dungeon Siege, and they definately felt smoother.

i gained 4 3dmarks. i'm extremely pleased. :D
any case, i don't see why you should or shouldn't upgrade. nothing is out to make use of dx9 so to risk compatibility problems is up to you. however, i haven't found any at all and it runs perfectly fine.

Considering how old 3dmark is, I completely ignore it now.

it still really is the only way for me to compare performance though. i play tons and tons of games, but since i'm actually playing the game, i can't really tell the difference in performance between say similar driver revisions, or direct x versions. 4-5fps makes no difference to me. and its alot simpler to benchmark with 3dmark than anything else especially with the score database.

But since it only benchmarks 3d, it doesn't say anything about benefits to say sound, or networking, or even on the fly loading performance, or anything. I'm just saying it isn't all that useful to me.
Anyway, that topics done, I guess. I'm going to bed.
Have fun.
I found two of my games refused to run with DX9. Comanche4 and Ironstorm. All others seemed to look the same, except maybe the smoke effects seemed to look a little better, such as in MOHAA. After a couple days, I removed DX9 with DX Buster, and reinstalled DX8.1, no problems.

Another game that will not work with DX9 RC0 is Starfleet Command 3.
Upon checking Activisions website they confirm that the game will not recognize any DX betas.

I gained more than 1000 3dmarks with latest dx9. I am less than 10 3dmarks away from 13,000 at stock speeds.:D
