I've been wanting to go with Athlon 64 FX for a long time but never had the money, but now I can afford one, finally. My OCZ PC3200EL Platinum Rev.2 should be coming next week as well, so I guess I'll be having some fun benchmarking! Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys had one, or an FX-53 even, to let me know what kind of performance I can expect (compared to my current setup). I ordered this morning so it's coming next week, probably on Tuesday since it's from Newegg.

Well IMO you won't notice a huge difference especially if you are overclocking your current 3500+. A lot of people are overclocking their 3500+ and getting at or near FX53 level performance already for a lot less $$.

If I had things to do over again I never would've got this FX53. The 3800+ was a better deal IMO for a couple different reasons.

My 3.0C P4 was a good performer and I noticed almost no difference when it came to Windows performance, boot times, etc. with this FX53. 3dmark01 was much faster (6000+ points) and certain areas of FarCry which were CPU limited also got a noticeable boost.

Sorry to disappoint, but YMMV. :)

Well I can run the 3500+ overclocked but not the RAM, and that kinda annoys me. I'd rather just keep my system running at a 1:1 ratio the whole time, and the RAM OCZ is sending me will be a perfect match, I figure. Plus it'll still be a lot faster.

That's a lot of coin to spend on an FX55 when you already have a 3500+ dude. I hope you aren't disappointed with it.

I doubt you'll be disappointed with that memory though. :D

No, the truth is my original intention was to get an FX processor but I was going to do it later - the reason I bought the 3500+ was because it was the only one the local computer store had when my Pentium 4 system died, and I didn't know if my entire system was fried or just the processor, and I wasn't about to wait for FedEx shipping times to find out. So I kinda got stuck with it. I'm going to sell it anyway and recoup some of the loss, so we'll see how that goes. I didn't really buy the FX as a big upgrade or anything, mostly just completing the system I had planned to build all along.

I find it hard to spend that much on the FX-55 when you have a 3500+,I wish I had it to do all over to I would not have got a 754 CPU,I would have went with a 939,because it looks like the 754 don't have much of a future as far as up gradeing the cpu,but it's to late now and I get pretty good performance out this setup. But hey if you got the cash you will have a nice setup.

Wow, id say getting the fx-55 sounds great as long as you can get back your money on the 3500+, ebay maybe.

but for preofrmance diffrent, i dobut you will really 'feel' much, maybe a bit in games however.

He might get $250 for that CPU in which case he'll be out at least $500 for the FX55.

Just seems like a lot of money to pay for a small increase in performance... But then again, I'm a bit of a hypocrite here going from a P4 3.0c to a FX53. It was faster, sure. But $800 faster? No...

Yeah, I'm looking to sell this CPU now, I'll have the FX on Monday. Like I said, it's not really that I'm expecting a huge performance boost (although there will be a slightly noticable one). I just wanted an FX system, so I got one. Once that OCZ gets here I'll be sitting on quite a nice setup, and hopefully I will not need to upgrade for a long time.

Yeah, going from a OCed 3500 to a FX53 wont get you much in games, especially if you game @ 1600x1200. But, its still a nice CPU. The ram you're getting is super nice :D I got mine for 200$ ( brand new ) from the forums @ hard.

I fubar'd my 3700+ the other day, and needed to replace it. So I went with an FX55.

I can't say I noticed much of a difference between the two myself.

But if you want it Ninjaman09, then go for it mate.

Well it's moot now. Got the processor and it is DOA! The FedEx guys must have had a good old time with the box, it looked like it had been used as a soccer ball. Opened it up to find - no trace of any packaging insulation! Just a little OEM processor that got the hell beat out of it. Of course, it doesn't work. And Newegg is usually so good about these things. Well, at least they waived the restocking fee (which was like 140 bucks).

So screw it, it's not worth THAT much trouble. I'll just O/C my 3500+ and be done with it.

Wow, i cant belive that happend. However it is defiantly your right to get a refund or a new one. However i dont think you have a total loss, if you get the hankering to upgade again, maybe it will be a FX-57 ; )

Yeah, maybe. For now, I'm going to be happy with what I've got and look forward to playing Half-Life 2 on an already kickass system :D

Most 3000+ winnys can reach FX53 speeds....
If you have the money a FX55 is nice. For 99% of us gamers itS' just a waste of money though.
