There's a new link on the "Are You Ready" site, with a blurb from John Carmack.

Not much in the way of new info, but it's interesting to see his comments, especially after his E3 display with the 9700.

Not much in the way of new info is correct. I recognize the last part of the quote from JC from some material released about 2-3 months back.

I though DOOM 3 was optimized for the 9700, why would nVidia put up a Carmack interview there then?

Well that is simply a false information. Don't know from where you got it.
But doom3 was mostly developed on a GF3. Some months back J.C. said that the majority of employees working on the doom3 project use GF4TI cards.
I think because J.C presented Doom3 on a Radeon9700 at the E3 everyone thought it is optimized for the Radeon9700.

Doom3 has different rendering paths for different graphics chips.
There is a rendering path for NV20, NV30, R200, a standard OpenGL rendering path and i don't know maybe some more.
I am not sure if there is a rendering path for R300. If not R300 will use the R200 rendering path. Because R300 has only 1 TMU per pipe that shouldn't be a problem.
