I have an MSI geforce 3, plugged into a SE440BX mobo, and there is no agp adjustment in the bios, and whenever i enter a 3d program it gives me a device failed and error and stuff. I am using xp, and the video card fan is powered on a mobo header. 2d works just fine.
Good luck, when the GF1DDR first came out, I went and bought one only to find that I couldnt use it on my BX board, 2D was fine, games locked up after 1min. Some BX board work some dont, there used to be a GF FAQs that had a listing, not sure if that is still around??

I'm using a TI 4600 on a BX board (2nd generation, sorta), runs 150 and 155 FSB (if the memory/CPU can handle it), without a problem at AGP 2x, but SBA enabled locks the system past 112 fsb.
The GF2 cards had problems running on most older BX boards (including mine), at higher than 124 FSB, without switching to AGP 1x. The GF4 cards apparently fixed that, while breaking SBA, heh...
As Falkentyne said: Make sure SBA is disabled as it will completely mess things up in 3d.
I've had a GF3 in my Asus P3B-F (BX) at 150 Mhz fsb/100 Mhz agp at 2x agp/64MB aperture for well over a year now, and it's running great. It's also been clocked at 240/530 practically since day 1.
Gainward GF3 ti500 here with no problems on an ancient 440BX chipset, an Intel SE440BX-2 mainboard.
Asus P3BF Mobo
P2 300mhz CPU
128 megs Mushkin Rev2
Visiontek GF2 GTS 32 megs
SB Live
Netgear FA311 Network Card
Have no problems at all :) I'm running 20 series dets I think. Plays Q3 fine with everything turned up at 1024 x 768, 32 bit color, no AA or AF.
P2BF Mobo, not P3BF. Sorry.

any reason why 8x aniso shouldn't work on a bx board with a GF4?

Who said 8x aniso doesn't work? Works fine on my BX board. Performance, however, is another thing...

well, so far i have had no luck with aniso - there is a thread marked aniso in the drivers section.
are there any bios settings i should be aware of?
