Why is FX5700 so much slower than older Quadro?

I purchased a PNY NVIDIA Quadro4 900 XGL 128MB two years ago and have experienced terrific performance with it using it at a rather high resolution, 1600x1024x32 display.

A few months ago I purchased an ASUS V9570TD (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700) 256MB. I did this because I needed more graphics RAM for textures for a software product I'm writing.

Much to my surprise after swapping out the cards and installing the latest NVIDIA driver (on Win XP Pro SP2) the FX 5700 is slow as heck 5-10FPS with OpenGL in a 1600x1024x32 window when the Quadro was 40-50 FPS with the exact same app and content.

Why is the two year old Quadro4 so much faster than the much newer FX5700? What am I missing? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

If the Quadro 4 is based on the GF4 Ti4400 or 4600 card, it would most likely be faster in everything except DX9.0 stuff.

Of course you may have driver conflict too, or some other thing happening contributing to the poor performance.

sounds to me like a driver conflict. 5-10 fps is quite the change from 40-50 fps. Which drivers are you using? I'm not sure on this but I think that the best drivers out there for the FX line of cards are the 53.03 (correct me if I'm wrong anybody).

isn't the simple answer one is a professional graphics card and the other is a consumer graphics card. yes i know a 5700 is faster than a 4600 but isn't that difference pretty minimal and any benefit seen in the architecture change will be offset by the fact that nvidia enables certain functions on it's cad/professional cards to make them run faster in cad type software.

now that i look at it. i think einstein is correct. they difference shoudl in no way be that much. check/reinstall your chipset drivers.
