So I tried it out, and it wasn't too bad.
On the .4pre there's a pretty noticeable difference in speed vs .3
On anything running above 2GHz (or AthlonXP equivalent rating and higher) it's about like running a 266-300MHz G3 system.
On my dual opteron setup in 64-bit mode on Linux using .3 it's quite a bit faster, but I didn't want to take the time to compile .4 sources on a weekday. bleh
I can't wait to get it built for Linux and see, but on my opteron rig it's about like running a 600MHz G4 in Linux.
Interesting stuff.

Nice shot, it looks intresting id like to try it but dont want to shell out for OS X heh.
Wow, that looks impressive! But I think I'll stick with my 1.33GHz G4 PowerBook for speed. ;)
What I'd really love to see is something like WineX for OS X ... something that would allow me to play Windows games on the Mac. It just pains me to shell out $$$ for a Mac game that I already own on PC.

I own a 15" 1.33 GHz powerbook too.
I just relish in the usage of PPC instructions on x86. I think it roxX0rs teh big on3!!11
I really wish that we had platform agnostic binaries, think Java but native to hardware. If we could ever get there, that's the ideal way we should compute.

There used to be all kinds of Windows emulators ten years ago. SoftWindows was a big one, I think. Are they all dead now? I remember they would take a performance hit, but it'd only be around 20 percent, so games would still be playable with an adequately fast processor.

It's one thing when the graphics are all CPU-driven ... but to emulate the graphics subsytem takes a little bit more finesse, I think. (And actually, Transgaming provides a portability layer that allows for quick ports of PC/console games to OS X ... alas, it's not a standalone product like WineX that would allow Windows games to run.)
