View Full Version : New nvidia intranet video: "The Break In"
Two guys trying to break into nvidia hq to steal a glimpse at the NV30... discuss amongst yourselves.

Thats was actually pretty cool, the best one yet. Man I would like to see that lab with some good steady footage.
I'm with Spiffster...I really liked this one...the best by far...
The music and the whole premise was great!
It's cool to actually get a glimpse of the actual card itself as well...if that is in fact, the card...
Regardless, I'm loving the build-up to Comdex...only a few more days... :D

Let's hope the DDR2 comes with a 256bit bus.

Is that a molex connector in the upper right hand corner. If so does that give any clues to the specs of this thing.

I was going to COMDEX but they never sent me my badges. Ah oh well, anyways, what are those 2 white things at the end of the board?

You know whats sad? That if someone with a 9700 Pro with Videoshader enabled got a screenshot it would come out alot clearer and we would be able to get a better picture of the NV30.:p
That is helluva card
The video was REALLY cool!!!

yeah but I would have preferred to hear memory bus 256 bits
:D :D

Where are the Russians and the Chinese when you need them? They always leak the info :D

LOL. One of the guys in the break-in video is Steve Sims, a Product Manager in NVIDIA marketing. I've met him. He's the one who you see opening the fire door on the second floor.

not really clearer. what the videoshader does is basically interpolate the video output so that low quality videos are smoothed out to get rid of that annoying box effect which happens in low quality encodings. all at the price of clarity, of course.

The only thing of note in the video is that the NV30 uses DDR-II memory.
There's no reason why the NV30 can't use DDR-II memory on a 256bit bus, it's just not mentioned in the video if it does or not. Hell those guy were in a hurry and it's way easier to tell what ram a card uses then the type of bus. Would you have rather had them say "OMG it's got 256MB of DDR-II on a 256 bit bus running at 500Mhz" or maybe you'd settle for the obligatory "these cards run on the gold standard in drivers".

so they confirmed in the video that NV30 is using DDRII?

That just confirms my belief that all the nVidia videos are basically home movies from employees of the company. Why not let the employees blow off a little steam.
They indeed seem to be home-made movies. I'd speculate they don't have an in-house film editor, however. So, it's probably all made by a hobbyist. And if so, it's a really good job.

During the lab visit, three things are put into evidence:
The computer screen at 1:34
The chips at 1:36
The GPUs at 1:41
First of all, it may be interesting to see if those GPUs *truly* are NV30s or if they're GF4s or something else.
Well, after looking at normal GF4 Ti 4600 & 4200 cards in Anandtech reviews of those cards, I sincerly think it isn't a GF4.
So... Could it really be a NV30? Yeah, maybe...
So let's suppose it is... What the heck is that computer screen?
Err, now that's hard!
It's either an emulation platform ( and why would they run one if they got NV30s ready? ) or it's a non-PC with lots of easy-to-configure options with a NV30 in it. I'd guess on the second one. While it could be a PC, I'd say that's really unlikely.
Thus, what could those graph represent? Well, obviously, a so HUGE leap could only come from overclocking or changing a feature.
It could be temperature ; they're trying to see if a type of fan is sufficent for xMhz.
Or maybe they're trying to identify the efficiency of their power saving solutions for the NV28M... It could be anything, in fact.
Anyone got another guess?

It looks kinda like a memory bandwidth test similar to those RAM test programs. My guess would be throughput for small packets of info on the left getting bigger as you move right. THere seems to be two curves, one wavy one and one that starts lower and then goes above the wavy one. Maybe the wavy one is a Radeon and the more stable one is the nV30.
Hey, you asked for guesses.
