As much as I dislike some of things cheney has done in the past, and as much as I admire his dedication to his family, this is indeed something worrying...

hope he pulls through... the rigeurs de jour of the campaign may well have caught up with him but he looked fit enough...

btw... hypothetically... if he has to step down, who then becomes v.p?

The President would appoint a new VP

well its early days yet... hope he pulls through like last time...

wrt my question, I was wondering more along the lines of WHO the v.p. might be? would powell or condi become the first person of color in such a position? would rummy or wolfowitz move up the ranks? would mcCain step in? or giulliani?

-edit-

first article regarding it is up

seems may just have been flu related...

I tell you some of these news headlines you see floating around make it seem like its the end of the bloody world...

25th I think. Also a historical (never can spell that word) precident.

Back in the day Vice President Spiro T. Agnew resigned because of a scandal involving his income taxes, Nixon appointed Gerald Ford. When Nixon Resigned, Ford got promoted, and appointed Nelson Rockefeller. So at one time the U.S. had both a president and vice president that no one voted for.

saz, I'm not sure Powell would be a likely candidate, if the need should arise. There's been mention that in Bush's second term, he might get dropped from the Bush admin. If the same rumor is indeed true, that Condi could take Rumsfeld's position, there might be some possiblity there.

Didn't Rumsfeld have a heart condition or something? For which there were some calling scandal that he should get a flu shot, but such condition does qualify for getting of a flu shot under the current rationing of flu vacine?

BTW, and from experience, after getting a flu shot, one can still end up with a flu, but a more mild one then one would have otherwise got. They gave me a flu shot (when I went in for one, the doctor instructed the nurse she wanted me to have one, as a few years ago, I had a couple bouts of bronchitious). I've felt a little sick after getting it, but nothing serious...

Powell is generally well respected here also.

I am willing to bet that Bill Frist will be picked by the president (God forbid a thousand times) if anything happens to Vice President Cheney. The president will want to pick some one who will run in 2008 that has a chance to win and Frist has a very good chance to win should he run and being vice president will give him major face time.

McCain, Juliani will never be picks because they are more liberal than what the party wants to nominate in 2008.

I nominate Arnold.

Well with Arnold, we could certainly end up with the Turbanator

Hopefully however, Cheney does pull through...
