View Full Version : Forcing shader model 2.0 on FX 5900XT
Hi,
In using and testing out my new FX5900XT, I thought I would look into using Far Cry as a means to measure its performance. No matter what I do however, I cannot seem to force shader model 2.0(a) paths to run. It always seems to run in model 1.1 path mode.
Suggestions for console commands?

Tried it. Didn't work. Still tells me shader path == 1.1
Any other idea's?

type:
\R_sm20path 1
in the console
Thats a no go. Told me its an unknown command. Tried typing it several times, to make sure I had the syntax correct.
???
Anybody? There has to be a unified command set for this purpose...... :retard:
Un-Install completely &
Re-Install FarCry!
Then try the commands
Will work
Is that a joke? Hehehe.
I will try it, if you think this is a wise thing to do. However, does it make a difference that I am running the 1.3 patch?
Mmmhh...Patch 1.3 forces SM2 by itself...
Ok. So why do my stats in the top right hand corner display Shader path = 1.1
?

Remember you have to run with some of the settings at very high to get ps2.0 (I forget which, Im sure all on very high will give you ps2.0/a + ps1.1) High gives just ps1.1 IIRC
You need patch1.3 to get a ps2.0 mode of comparable quality to other ps2.0 cards on the gffx
Sure enough Dan, after some experimenting, you were correct! Seems the ONLY way with the 1.3 patch, was to use the farcry configurator to "very high" in order to make it set Shader Path = 2.x
;). Thanks for the help!
