Alright well today is a sad day in the world of computers for me. A couple years ago i bought a nec mitsubishi 22inch fp1350. This is kind of an old picture of my setup i now have better speakers, mouse, keyboard, and mouspad.... http://img44.exs.cx/img44/2595/monitor1.jpg

im running both monitors on a evga 6800 ultra... well last night i was trying out the blood rayne 2 demo and everything was sweet... all the sudden the screen went down into a little flicker (looked like a little flame in the center of the screen) and started clicking,,, AH!!! i turned off the monitor and turned off my computer as fast as i could. Well i wait a while and tried to turn on the monitor now only hearing a clicking sound... tried a new powercord, new socket in the wall... everything but still got clicking.. called nec support and they said the warrenty was off on it and the internal relay or something about the transistors wasnt clicking and the monitor was broken... nothing i could do and was left witha 75 pound paperweight... well in the year 2000 this monitor was worth about 1,000 dollars but is now discoutinued.. i think now its vaule would be around 500. so now the search begins for a new monitor!!!! right now im on the 17 inch in that picture above...

well despite having the monitor blow out... i still love nec... im my opinion they are the very best monitor company with viewsonic close behind. so i went to newegg, typed in nec 22 inch and this is what i found to be the best monitor... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-002-091&depa=0

i think it is the best 22 inch monitor you an buy... in a poll i think it was rated number 2 with a viewsonic being number 1... but i want a NEC... alot of people say this one is practically the same thing with a little lower res and no usb ports on the side http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-002-040&depa=0

but its only 50 bucks cheaper... so i figure ill pay the extra 50 and get a better monitor... there is also 1 more at newegg but its 650.. and i dont think its much better at all... advice?

Yes, I have some advise. I usually purchase my componants from Newegg, however, not monitors. Ebay is the place for that new and used saving about 20% on new and more on used. Here are a few links that may be interesting:

Do not purchase from ebay stores, only from the auction pages as the stores are way out expensive. I bought the FE2111SB-BK for 450 and it is brand new.

a friend of mine can get 100 - 120 bucks off stuff at www.dell.com they have that first monitor for 600 with free shipping... so thats about 500 bucks total...

plus is the FE2111SB as good as the other one?

my coworkers swear by monitorsdirect.com

They got this neat web-based monitor testing program there too.. Word of advice: it may point out some flaws that you may never have noticed in normal use, which may drive you crazy now that you are aware of them.. lol

Personally, I try to buy my monitors for B&M places, cause if there's anything worng with them, I can just drive over and return it.. and not worry about paying or shipping a 70 lb monitor back and forth.

I don't trust Ebay.

It's about the same without the USB ports.

my coworkers swear by monitorsdirect.com

They sometimes have some really sweet shipping and/or warranty details. I bought a monitor from them with a $0.01 three-year rush replacement guarantee and free shipping. Their customer service was outstanding as well - they answered all my e-mail questions within 24 hours and shipped my order out right away. I can't recommend them enough.

Well, it costs more (like what, $10-20 out of $550?) cause you should have less hassles returning or getting a replacement monitor from them, vs others.

Hence why I like buying from a local B&M in the first place... If anything goes wrong, I can just drive over and return it.

good luck whatever you decide on doing.
