Well, it's almost here. Not enough time to sit uninstalling/reinstalling and testing with CS:S.

I'm using the old 61.77 at the moment

They don't have the horrible lines in between polygons, that some of the newer ones do. But I notice ugly white patches at the side of the water sometimes on, for instance, Chateau.

So which drivers make the the Source engine look best?

( I'm not AS interested in performance, I just wan correctness :)

66.93 is the best driver for hl2 and all source engine game so far.

Wrong. There are many upset nVidia users because of thoes drivers and for good reason. CS: Source and most other games stutter a lot with the 66.93, at least on my system. The 67.50 provides better IQ and smoother gameplay.

I would also say the 66.93's. I believe NV released these purposely right before HL2. From what I've heard and read, they are the fastest and remove the white lines in CS:S. I also hope they are since thats what I'm running tomorrow, but if I notice any of this "stuttering" I'll probaly go back to the 66.81's, but I sure hope I don't need to.

I somtimes wonder how many of these people with stuttering issues are running with overclocked hardware in there systems

I have never had this problem in the past. It started and ended with the 66.93 drivers.

hmm... i use the 66.93 and never encountered any problems so far.. cs source runs like butter with no white lines on my comp... mmmmmmmm white lines (sniff sniff)....

I have stuttering problem with 66.93 too. A little noticeable in CS:S but very noticeable in Far Cry. As you can see, my GT is OC'ed but I've never had this problem with my OC'ed until I upgraded to 66.93 (less stuttering with 66.81 but still there). I went back to 65.76 and no more stuttering, not even in Far Cry and my fps actually went up from 66.93. I've never had any white lines problem, though.

1 hour and 30 minutes remaining..........................

I've had the stuttering issue with different drivers. Sometimes uninstalling the drivers and doing a clean reinstall stopped it.

I've also noticed that Fraps sometimes screws up and may even have been the cause of the stuttering on peoples systems.

I guess it all comes down to the individuals system and or what background processes you may be running. As of yet I have not seen a single set of drivers where everyone has had stuttering. Some have it, others don't.

Try a couple of drivers and see what works best for you.

you peeps with stuttering, how big is your AGP aperture size?

I'm using 66.93. No problems. Graphic - Leadtek 6800 GT, Intel P4, etc. :)

the new 76.02 are great with hl2. I think the stuttering is caused by improper agp settings too. Go back to 64 and see what happens.
There was a article on rojakspot once that said you really dont want higher than 64 anyway as it makes no difference.

67.50 are the best for me. They run HL2 the fastest and give me great IQ.

Running 61.72 and have colored banding in dark areas. Also massive stuttering and hickups. (GeForce 6800GT)

As a former sufferer of the stutter....I know that agp apature and overclocking were not issues...for me at least...my evga needed a bios flash to set the clock speeds for 2d and 3d to 425 each (evga cards come 425 from the factory...so no OC). This rid me of most of the stutter.

Right now I'm running the 66.93's myself.....I have an occasional white texture pop up in the npc's heads....and that HL2 stutter that's found with the sound (or whatever is going on there). Other than that no probs.

61.72? Geez that ones old! or did you mean 66.72?

11-18-04, 01:17 PM
66.93 for me, No problems as of yet...

67.50 for me.

/me couldn't care less...

I was using the 61.77 drivers all the way up until last night when I installed the 67.02 drivers. I never noticed any shimmering before and I don't notice it now. Were the 61.77 drivers free of this also? Maybe my old ass just doesn't notice it.
Anyways I ran some benchmarks. In the benchmarks I ran, Farcry was about 3-4 fps faster, Halo was about 3 fps faster in it's built in benchmark, CSS VST was about the same and Doom 3 was about the same maybe 1 fps slower but who cares?
I ran the Terminator 2 and Step Into Liquid HD demo videos and got very slightly less CPU usage than I did with the 61.77s almost the same really.
I guess I'll stick with these drivers for now.

I'm running the 67.02 drivers and I'm not getting any graphical issues in HL2 and the speed seems to stay above 60 unless the stuttering bug rears its nasty head.

I'm afraid to use beta drivers after the 65.73 caused like 8 BSODs for me :(

You can't be scared all your life or you will just be a scared little nerd with old graphics card drivers.
Oops too late :nana: :POKE:

Two people in this thread have mentioned them, so I'm curious now :)
