Hello, after updating to the new Nvidia drivers at first everything worked fine 2d and 3d. But there's one problem which I can't solve: After graphical login starts I change back to console. This still works, but when I change back to X, I get some nice vertical stripes on screen and my whole system is dead! Not even telnet does work, machine is dead. I changed the AGP-driver in XF86Config, no solution. Changed AGP to 2x in BIOS, no solution. Tried that "No....Acel" (can't remember exactly) setting, I found here on forum... nothing changed.

I already had the same problem with my old SuSE 8.0, but there I simply used the 29xx drivers and everything worked fine... the bad thing is that these drivers are not available for SuSE8.1 and I could not compile it from source :(

Does anyone know something I could try to change? Currently I don't know what to do anymore.

Ah ,yeah: It's a GF2MX-400 and a board with SIS-Chipset.

Are you using a framebuffer console? (i.e. high-resolution screen)

If so, you have to be using the vesafb driver, not the rivafb driver, so you might want to check into that.

I already use vesafb. For now I use the "nv"-driver, because whenever I shut down my system, it crashes when changing to console. Am I really the only one with that problem?

I forgot something... if I change to console and do an "init 3", then "rmmod NVdriver" and after that again back to runlevel 5 everything works fine. But I need to un- and reload the NVdriver-module, if I don't do so I've got same crash as always. Maybe it's an initialization error after changing from X to console?!

[/B]

What was the problem?

I compiles the 2960 in Suse 8.1 myself without any errors. (I had another issue with the 3123 which could not be adressed by now.

To compile the modules you have to install the kernel-sources and an appropiate compiler (gcc) first. After this it should be no problem.

Hello,

I'm already solved the problem with compiling the 2960-drivers. You're right, it was a problem with my system after updating to newer distribution. I realized that I could compile almost nothing, I reinstalled some things and now that's ok. I'm using 2960 now without any problems.
