View Full Version : Okay, now I am confused
Matrox Parhelia or Radeon 9500.
My parents are going to give me $500 so I don't think I can afford an Ati card. :/
Is the Parhelia a good jump from a GF3?
I don't care about DX9 features, I care about performance and quality of todays and tomorrows games.
I'm now reading the Nvnews review of the card.
I can't decide if it's worth the jump though. :/
BTW I do care about FSAA but not AF.
500 australia dollars?IMHO the parhelia is not much of a jump from a gf3.The radeon 9700 non pro should be a huge jump but I don't know how much it costs in $.In europe radeon 9700 non pro costs around 390euros.The radeon 9500pro is as fast as a gf4ti4200 default and faster than a gf4ti4600 with fsaa&aniso.Don't buy the non-pro radeon 9500,its a waste of money IMO.

Just checked, the Radeon 9700 Pro 128 is about 400 € in France. I'm almost positive I saw models topping at 500 €...
(1€ = $1)

Are these prices above moreless accurate for the US ??

Sthn teliki, it's only money.
About the prices in europe, the fact that there are no large distributing channels + VAT's(eupope tax) make the prices skyrocket. The average VAT in europe is around 15-18% on the price. There is good interview at www.guru3d.com where creative.europe explains how and why prices goes up in europe.
P.S In case you don't know there is a big trade(tax's) war between USA and Europe thats why European products are more expensive in USA and US products more expensive in europe.Try buying a mercedes in USA and check what europeans pay.

the Parhelia is a good jump from the GF3. so is a GF4 or a R9500Pro though :p
it's pretty obvious that you're not considering a GF4, so in reality i'm not sure you're getting much more of a bang for the buck with either the Parhelia or the R9500Pro. personally, unless you intend to to some Surround Gaming, i wouldn't touch the Parhelia.
how much is a R9700(non-Pro) over in AUS?
I wish I could find the price. :/

are they even out in the US yet(the R9700 regular)? i'm just assuming they would probably show up here before AUS.
