HL2: Slow trackball in menu & game

I don't remember it being like this yesterday, but today I fired up HL2 and my trackball is slow as heck in the menu. It's moving like molasses, I have to spin the ball 4-5 full rotations just to make it across the screen (on the desktop 1 rotation does the job). It also seems slow in game, jacking up the acceleration helps ingame but I think the game is affected in a similar way. Trackball works fine in all other games and on the desktop.

system is in sig

1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF set ingame, Reflect World and everything else on High.

hmm I fixed this by unchecking the "disable mouse acceleration for games" on my logitech control panel. Wonder why HL2 is the only game giving me issues with this option?

I use a microsoft optical trackball and I don't have any problems at all. I also have exceleration in windows turned on. I turn up the mouse sensitivity in the game options and it works fabulous. Aims awsome and does 180's in split seconds.
